The squad is under the supervising body of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), which is a member of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU), Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF), and the global jurisdiction of FIFA. Jamaica's home matches have been played at Independence Park since its opening in 1962.

In 2008, the team was disbanded after it failed to get out of the group stage of Olympic Qualifying, which notably featured the United States and Mexico. The program was restarted in 2014 after a nearly six-year hiatus, finishing second at the 2014 Women's Caribbean Cup after losing 1–0 against Trinidad and Tobago in the final. The team is backed by ambassador Cedella Marley, the daughter of Bob Marley; she helps raise awareness for the team, encourages development, and provides for it financially. Jamaica qualified for the FIFA Women's World Cup for the first time in 2019, but the team was eliminated after losing all its matches in the group stage.

The 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup was an international football tournament held in the United States from 10 July to 1 August 2021. The sixteen participating national teams were required to register a squad of 23 players, of which three have to be goalkeepers. Only players in these squads are eligible to take part in the tournament.
Each team must submit a final squad of 23 players for 2022 CONCACAF W Championship, three of whom must be goalkeepers, at least ten days before the opening match of the tournament. If a player becomes injured or ill severely enough to prevent their participation in the tournament before their team's first match, or following the completion of the group stage, they can be replaced by another player from the preliminary list. On 8 June, all the teams submitted their preliminary roster. The final rosters were announced on 29 June 2022.
The 2023 Cup of Nations will be the second edition of the Cup of Nations, an international women's football tournament, consisting of a series of friendly games, that will be held in Australia from 16 to 22 February 2023. The four national teams involved in the tournament registered a squad of 23 players.
