James Owens (born July 5, 1955) is a former professional American football player who played six seasons in the National Football League (NFL) for the San Francisco 49ers and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Owens competed at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal in the 110 meter hurdles, finishing sixth.

He played his entire NFL career for the Broncos from 1985 to 1991, making Super Bowl appearances in Super Bowl XXI, XXII and XXIV. Sewell finished his seven seasons with 917 rushing yards, 187 receptions for 2,354 yards, and 26 total touchdowns. Sewell became the head football coach at Overland High School in Aurora, Colorado.

He played college football for the Indiana Hoosiers, earning All-American honors despite playing on a 2–7 Hoosiers team. The Detroit Lions selected him in the first round with the 11th overall pick in the 1965 NFL Draft. He scored a touchdown for the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl V. He was inducted into the National Polish-American Sports Hall of Fame in 2008. He now runs a truck and trailer repair shop in Whitmore Lake, Michigan.
