The Jammu Metro is a proposed light rail transit system for the city of Jammu in the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The project has been proposed by the Housing and Urban Development Department of the Government of Jammu and Kashmir and is estimated to cost Rs. 4825 crores in phase 1. The proposed system will have a total route length of 43.50 km, consisting of 4 lines and 22 stations, and will be completed in two phases. The expected completion date for the project is 2026. The Jammu and Kashmir state government has announced plans to introduce a metro rail system in the city of Jammu. To conduct a traffic analysis, the government hired the services of the infrastructure development enterprise RITES. [4] Additionally, the government approached the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to prepare a detailed project report, including feasibility and financial viability. [5]

History

It was expected that the official plan for the Jammu Metro will be launched in 2022-23, with construction to follow thereafter. This will also coincide with the construction of the Srinagar Metro. [6]

As of July 4, 2023, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has proposed the introduction of MetroLite lines in Srinagar and Jammu cities, as reported by The Indian Express. [7] This development comes as a significant step towards enhancing the public transport system in the region. The proposal includes a 25 km metro line in Srinagar and a 23 km line in Jammu. With the aim of boosting connectivity and convenience for commuters, the J&K Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, has expressed the administration's focus on implementing the MetroLite system due to its cost-effectiveness and viability. This proposal has been sent to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for ministerial consultation. [8]

The Jammu–Baramulla line is a railway track being laid to connect the Kashmir Valley in the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir with Jammu railway station and thence to the rest of the country. The 338 km railway track will start from Jammu and end at Baramulla. It comes under the jurisdiction of the Firozpur railway division of Indian Railways' Northern zone. Part of this railway route from Udhampur to Baramulla is known as Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramula Rail Link (USBRL). The 359 m (1,178 ft) tall Chenab Bridge lies on this line, which is the tallest railway bridge in the world. The total project cost in 2022 was INR28,000 crore.

Pune Metro is a mass rapid transit system serving the city of Pune, India. The system comprises 3 lines with a combined length of 54.14 km (33.64 mi), of which 21.75 km (13.51 mi) on two lines are operational as of August 2023. The 16.59 km (10.31 mi) Purple Line from PCMC Bhavan to Swargate runs on an elevated viaduct between PCMC Bhavan to Range Hills, from where it goes underground. The Aqua Line runs from Vanaz to Ramwadi covering a distance of 14.66 km (9.11 mi) on an elevated viaduct. The 23.33 km (14.50 mi) elevated Line 3 will run from the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park in Hinjawadi via Balewadi to Civil Court. All three lines will align at the Civil Court interchange station.

Patna MRTS, constructed under a public-private partnership model, is estimated to cost 133,657.7 million (US$1.7 billion). This cost excludes land acquisition cost, which will be paid for by the Bihar government. Nagpur Metro is a rapid transit system for the city of Nagpur, Maharashtra, India. Phase I of the metro project cost was estimated to cost 8,650 crore but the final project cost incurred was 9,279 crore (US$1.2 billion). In February 2014, the Government of Maharashtra gave approval for the Metro project, while the Government of India's Ministry of Urban Development had given "In Principle" approval for the project. On 20 August 2014, Union Cabinet gave approval for the development of the project, and the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone on 21 August. Construction began on 31 May 2015, with trial run beginning on 30 September 2017.

The Bhanupli–Leh line is an under-construction electrified railway track connecting Bhanupli in Punjab state to Leh in Ladakh union territory of India. Once complete, the 489 km (304 mi) long, 1,676 mm wide gauge all-weather track will reduce travel time from New Delhi to Leh to 10 hours. The line connects Dahisar in the northwest with Mandale in Mankhurd via Andheri, BKC and Chembur in the east. Phase One of Line 2A was partially opened on 2 April 2022 from Dahisar East to Dahanukarwadi.

The Srinagar Metro is a light rail transit planned for the city of Srinagar, Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir in the disputed Kashmir region. The plans for the Srinagar Metro have been finalised with the work expected to start once the project gets nod from union cabinet. The proposed network will have two corridors. Each corridor of Srinagar metro will have 12 stations each with the total cost expected to be ₹5,559 crore.

The Varanasi Metro is a light rail transit system proposed for the city of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India. The proposed system consists of 2 corridors that span from BHEL to Banaras Hindu University (19.35 km) and Benia Bagh to Sarnath (9.885 km). The feasibility study of the project was done by RITES and was completed in June 2015.

Coimbatore Metro, also known as Kovai Metro, is a proposed rapid transit system for Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.

Metrolite is a light rail (LRT) urban transit system being planned in India for cities with lower ridership projection and as a feeder system for the existing metro systems. It will cater to lower passenger capacity at a reduced cost than a metro line. It will have dedicated tracks, separated from the road.

The Blue Line or ORR-Airport Metro Line is part of the Namma Metro rail network for the city of Bangalore, Karnataka, India. It consists of two sections - Phase-2A and Phase-2B. Construction of Phase-2A began in August 2021. Construction of Phase-2B is expected to begin in February 2022. The 58.19 km line connects Central Silk Board with the Kempegowda International Airport. The Line is mostly elevated but also has an at-grade (surface) section close to the Airport and 2 short underground sections where it passes the Jakkur Aerodrome and Yelahanka AFB. There are 30 stations on the line of which the two station/s at the Airport may be at surface level or underground. Blue Line will have interchanges with the Yellow Line at Central Silk Board, Purple Line at KR Pura, Pink Line at Nagawara and with the future /proposed Orange Line at Hebbal.
