Janet Ryder (born 21 June 1955) is a Welsh politician. She was a Plaid Cymru member of the National Assembly for Wales for North Wales from 1999 to 2011. She moved with her family to Wales in 1990 and has since learnt Welsh.
Ryder was born in Sunderland. [1] A former teacher and youth worker,she was involved with voluntary and community work in her home town of Ruthin.
In 2010 she became a member of the executive board of the Wales Rugby League and has been one of its patrons since 2006. [2]
She was formerly the Chair of Canolfan Awelon Management Committee and was also a former director on the board of Denbighshire Voluntary Services Council. [3]
Ryder has served as Mayor of Ruthin,on the Denbighshire County Council from 1995 to 1999,and on the Plaid Cymru National Executive,where she was formerly Shadow Minister for Education and Lifelong Learning.
During the First Assembly (1999–2003),she was the Shadow Minister for Local Government and Communities and in 2002 she was given additional responsibility for Finance. She was re-elected in May 2003 to serve in the Second Assembly (2003–2007) and was one of twelve members of the Plaid Cymru –The Party of Wales group. Following a Shadow Cabinet reshuffle in November 2003 she became the Shadow Minister for Education and Lifelong Learning. In April 2006,in line with changes made by the Assembly Government this portfolio changed to Education,Lifelong Learning and Skills. Her portfolio included responsibilities for schools,further education and skills development,higher education,the youth service and the careers service.
During the Third Assembly (2007–2011) she resigned that post (June 2008) and became chair of the Subordinate Legislation Committee which subsequently was renamed the Constitutional Affairs Committee. Since 2007 she has also been chair of the Wales branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association. At the same time she became chair of the Cross Party Group on Autism. [4]
In March 2008,Ryder launched a campaign calling on the UK Government to allow national flags such as the Welsh dragon to be displayed on car number plates. "I'm launching a petition to put pressure on Gordon Brown to listen to the people on this matter," she said. "Thousands have already voted with their feet on this and are proudly flying the flag but many more would no doubt join them if they knew they would not be breaking the law." [5]
She contested Clwyd South in the 2010 general election,finishing fourth. [6]
She did not stand to be re-elected in the 2011 National Assembly for Wales election.
Helen Mary Jones is a Welsh Plaid Cymru politician,who was a member of the Senedd from 1999 to 2011 and again from August 2018 until 29 April 2021.
Rhodri Glyn Thomas is a Welsh politician. He was the Plaid Cymru National Assembly for Wales Member for Carmarthen East and Dinefwr from 1999 to 2016,when he did not re-stand for election. Following his retirement from the Assembly he was appointed President of the National Library of Wales.
Peter Malcolm Black is a Welsh Liberal Democrat politician,and was a Member of the Welsh Assembly for the South Wales West Region between 1999 and 2016.
Mark Allan Isherwood is a Welsh Conservative Party politician,who has served as a Member of the Senedd (MS) for the North Wales region since 2003. He is currently Shadow Counsel General and Shadow Minister for Housing and Planning. Isherwood has held a number of Shadow Ministerial positions for the Welsh Conservatives since he was first elected,at various points holding portfolios for Finance,Social Justice,North Wales,Europe,Housing,Communities and Local Government,among others. He is also particularly notable for his advocacy for people with both physical and learning disabilities and impairments. He is himself deaf,and chairs cross party groups on disability,deaf issues and Autism,among others.
Denise Idris Jones was a Welsh politician and teacher. She was Labour member of the National Assembly for Wales for the Conwy Assembly constituency between 2003 and 2007.
Elin Jones is a Welsh politician who has served as the Llywydd of the Senedd since 2016. A member of Plaid Cymru,Jones has been the Member of the Senedd (MS) for Ceredigion since 1999.

Gareth Jones OBE is a Welsh politician. He was a member of the National Assembly for Wales for the Conwy from 1999 until 2003 when he lost by 72 votes. He sought a successful re-election to the newly created Aberconwy constituency in 2007 before retiring in 2011. He was also Leader of Conwy County Borough Council,from 2017 to 2019,and a Llandudno town councillor representing the Craig-y-Don ward. He was formerly a member of Plaid Cymru,but left in 2017 after attempting to form a council administration in Conwy containing Welsh Conservatives,which the national party would not allow. He ran an independent administration of the council until 2019,when the Conservatives took control of the council.
Christine Chapman is a Welsh Labour Co-operative politician who was a Member of the National Assembly for Wales for Cynon Valley from 1999 to 2016.

Elizabeth Gwendoline Nerys Evans is a Welsh politician. She was a member of the National Assembly for Wales representing Plaid Cymru in the Mid and West Wales region. She contested the Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire seat for the 2011 National Assembly for Wales elections,finishing in third place,and thus lost her seat in the Assembly. She is currently a director of the public affairs agency Deryn.
Janet Marion Davies is a Plaid Cymru Welsh politician. She was the National Assembly for Wales Member for South Wales West from 1999 to 2007,retiring at the 2007 election.

Dafydd Wigley became Leader of the Opposition and Shadow First Secretary of Wales after the creation of the National Assembly for Wales on 12 May 1999,following the first assembly election held on 6 May. Members of his shadow cabinet were elected by Plaid Cymru's assembly members and announced on 18 May.
Ieuan Wyn Jones became Leader of the Opposition in Wales after being elected as President of Plaid Cymru,the Official Opposition in the National Assembly for Wales,on 3 August 2000. Jones had previously served in these roles in an acting capacity on the behalf of his predecessor Dafydd Wigley from December 1999 to February 2000. He formed his shadow cabinet on 9 August and,like his predecessor,appointed himself Shadow First Secretary of Wales and Shadow Assembly Secretary for Finance. Members of his shadow cabinet were initially known as shadow assembly secretaries until October 2000. From that month,members were known as shadow ministers,with Jones's titles also changing to Shadow First Minister of Wales and Shadow Minister for Finance,after a similar change was made to the names of ministerial posts in Rhodri Morgan's coalition government between Labour and the Liberal Democrats. Jones's shadow cabinet was dissolved after the formation of a coalition government between Plaid Cymru and Morgan's Labour Party on 19 July 2007.
