Japan Open (figure skating)

The Japan Open is an annual senior international figure skating team competition organized by the Japan Skating Federation. The current format (team event) was established in 2006. The competition is held every autumn in Japan. Invited skaters compete in the disciplines of men's and ladies' singles. Skaters perform a free program but no short. Individual results are combined for a team standing.

Contents

From 1997 until 2001, Japan Open was an individual competition in all four figure skating disciplines.

2021

The 2021 competition was held on October 2, 2021 at the Saitama Super Arena.

Like the previous year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the competition featured two teams composed entirely of domestic Japanese skaters, rather than the traditional three teams drawn from their respective regions (Europe, Japan, and North America) However, only senior amateur skaters were included, whereas traditionally, professional skaters are also included and the previous year featured several junior skaters as well. Mai Mihara is a Japanese competitive figure skater. She is the 2022 Grand Prix Final champion, a two-time Four Continents champion, the 2018 Four Continents silver medalist, the 2019 Four Continents bronze medalist, the 2022 MK John Wilson Trophy champion, the 2022 Grand Prix of Espoo champion, and a two-time Japanese national medalist.

The year 2020 was the sixth year in the history of the Rizin Fighting Federation, a mixed martial arts promotion based in Japan. The year began with Rizin 21 in Hamamatsu on February 22, 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic would put the promotion on hiatus until Rizin 22 on August 9.

Lucas Tsuyoshi Honda is a Japanese figure skater. He is the 2021 CS Cup of Austria silver medalist, the 2020 NHK Trophy bronze medalist, and the 2020–21 Japan junior national champion.

The year 2021 was the seventh year in the history of the Rizin Fighting Federation, a mixed martial arts promotion based in Japan. Rizin events are broadcast through a television agreement with Fuji Television. In North America and Europe, Rizin events are available via PPV on LIVENow.

The 2021–22 Japan Figure Skating Championships were held in Saitama, Saitama on December 22–26, 2021. It was the 90th edition of the event. Medals were awarded in the disciplines of men's singles, women's singles, pairs, and ice dance. The results were part of the Japanese selection criteria for the 2022 Four Continents Championships, the 2022 Winter Olympics, and the 2022 World Championships.

CyberFight Festival 2022 was a professional wrestling event promoted by CyberFight for its four brands, DDT Pro-Wrestling (DDT), Pro Wrestling Noah (Noah), Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling (TJPW), and Ganbare☆Pro-Wrestling (GanPro). It took place on June 12, 2022, in Saitama, Japan, at the Saitama Super Arena and aired live on CyberFight's streaming service Wrestle Universe where it featured English commentary.

Hana Yoshida is a Japanese figure skater. She is the 2022 JGP Italy champion, the 2022 JGP France champion, the 2022 Bavarian Open Junior champion, the 2022 Egna Spring Trophy champion, the 2019 Japanese Junior National bronze medalist, and the 2020 Japanese Junior National silver medalist. Yoshida is the nineteenth woman to successfully land a triple Axel in international competition.

The 2022 NHK Trophy will be the fifth event in the 2022-23 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating, a senior-level international invitational competition series. It will be held at the Makomanai Ice Arena in Sapporo on November 18-20. Medals will be awarded in the disciplines of men's singles, women's singles, pairs, and ice dance. Skaters earned points toward qualifying for the 2022-23 Grand Prix Final.
