Jason Wisdom is an American musician who is the lead vocalist and bass guitarist for the heavy metal band Becoming the Archetype. Though he was born and raised in a Christian home, he states that he was never committed to Christianity until high school. [3] He considers his music as a form of ministry, but wishes to avoid a "preachy" stereotype. His influences include Extol, Living Sacrifice, and Mortification among others. [4] Wisdom notes that even though his music is Christian metal, many of his fans are not Christians and are many times the ones who defend his music. [3] Wisdom left the band in late November 2011 to take care of his family (although he would return to the band in 2022). [5] Though current 7 Horns 7 Eyes frontman, JJ Polachek, tried out, Wisdom was replaced by former live fill in, Chris McCane. [5] He started a solo project titled Death Therapy, which features no guitars. [6] [7] He currently works for RYFO, a company that helps musicians with places to stay, meals and other such things. History

Becoming the Archetype (1999–2011, 2022–present)

Wisdom's musical career started in 1999, when he helped form Technical death metal band, Becoming the Archetype with guitarists Sean Cunningham and Jon Star, bassist Wes Gaither, and drummer Brent "Duck" Duckett. [4] The band was not originally called Becoming the Archetype, as it was formerly called Nonexistent Failure. The band recorded a demo under this moniker, before changing the name again to The Remnant. The band recorded a demo and a their self titled album under this name. Around 2003-2004 the band played Cornerstone Festival, where they met the musicians in Demon Hunter. [4] The members of DH told the members of the band to change their name, so they would not be confused with the punk band The Remnants. [4] The band again changed their name to Becoming the Archetype. [4] The band went over several line-up changes with the exception of Wisdom, Duck and founding BTA guitarist (who had nothing to do with Nonexistent Failure or The Remnant) Seth Hecox. The band recorded four albums, titled Terminate Damnation , The Physics of Fire , Dichotomy , and Celestial Completion , before Wisdom and Duck left the band, on November 14, 2011. In 2022, Wisdom revived BTA alongside Duck and Hecox, releasing a new album, Children of the Great Extinction , on August 26, 2022. [9]

Solamors (2012–2015)

Beginning in 2012, Jason joined with guitarist Alex Kenis (Aletheian, ex-Becoming the Archetype) and drummer Travis Turner (ex-Aletheian, UnTeachers) to begin their band Solamors based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. [10] [11] The band's influences are Death, Emperor, Cynic, Becoming the Archetype, Aletheian, The Burial, Black Crown Initiate, Demon Hunter, Devin Townsend, Strapping Young Lad, Extol. [10] Wisdom left the band in 2015.

Death Therapy (2015–present)

Death Therapy is Wisdom's solo project that was originally conceived in 2010, but started recording in 2015. [12] [13] He recorded a single titled "Possessed" and was released on November 9, 2015. [6] [7] Wisdom was planning on releasing an EP and touring in 2016. [7] The project's influences are Tool, Opeth, and Devin Townsend. [12] On October 30, 2016, Wisdom announced that Death Therapy had signed to Solid State Records and would be releasing a new album, by around February 2017. [14] [15] The band released two songs titled "Slow Dance (With Death)" [16] and "Self Mind Dead" which features Andrew Schwab of Project 86. [17] Death Therapy released their album The Storm Before the Calm on February 24, 2017. [18] In 2019, Wisdom released Death Therapy's second album, Voices, on April 12. [19] After releasing the EP Dance Therapy: Pre-apocalyptic Cyber Funk for Late Stage Humanoids in 2020, Death Therapy issued Melancholy Machines, their third studio album, on June 4, 2021. [20]

Living Sacrifice is an American Christian metal band formed in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1989. The band has released eight studio albums, out of which the first three were recorded under R.E.X. Records with their original vocalist Darren Johnson as a more thrash metal and death metal oriented band. The band evolved into a groove metal and metalcore style beginning with Reborn (1997) under Solid State Records with the original guitarist Bruce Fitzhugh on vocals. In 2003, the group disbanded due to other projects and later their label, Solid State, released their best-of album, In Memoriam (2005). In 2008, Living Sacrifice reformed and released a two-song digital only single called Death Machine. They then began working on The Infinite Order which was released on January 26, 2010. Lance Garvin and Bruce Fitzhugh are the two remaining original members.

Embodyment was a Christian rock band from Arlington, Texas. The group formed in 1992 and were first known by the name Supplication where they originally played death metal, later turning to deathcore with the release of their debut album Embrace the Eternal, which in turn is credited as one of the earliest deathcore releases of all time. Following their debut full-length the band would completely abandon all their extreme metal elements thereafter, pursuing instead an alternative rock/nu metal style with their album The Narrow Scope of Things and subsequently became lighter with each proceeding album.

Becoming the Archetype is an American heavy metal band formed in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1999. They have released six albums on Solid State Records. Dichotomy, which was released in November 2008, sold around 2,300 copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to Nielsen Soundscan. The CD debuted at No. 18 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the top 100 of the Billboard 200. The band was part of the new wave of American heavy metal. After 2012's I Am, the band went on an indefinite hiatus. In 2022, however, the band reunited with the lineup of Jason Wisdom, Seth Hecox, and Brent “Duck” Duckett.

Aletheian are a Christian progressive/melodic death metal band. They formed in Lebanon, Pennsylvania in 1997 under the name Crutch, and then changed their name to "Aletheian" prior to the 2003 album Apolutrosis. Guitarist Alex Kenis joined Becoming the Archetype in 2007. In the early 2007, Aletheian signed to IronClad Recordings, an imprint of Metal Blade Records.

The Physics of Fire is the second studio album by American heavy metal band Becoming the Archetype. Released on May 8, 2007, the album shows the band shifting to a more progressive death metal sound. While the metalcore influences are still there, they are not as prominent as they were on Terminate Damnation. This is also the first and only album featuring Aletheian guitarist Alex Kenis.

Bruce Patrick Fitzhugh is an American musician. He the second lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist and founding member of Arkansas's Christian metal band Living Sacrifice. The lead vocalist role was left to Bruce shortly after the departure of Darren Johnson and prior to the recording of Living Sacrifice's 1997 album, Reborn. Fitzhugh is featured in Zao's The Lesser Lights of Heaven DVD. Fitzhugh's nephew is Drew Garrison, Vocalist for Descended From Wolves and Becoming Saints.

I Am is the fifth studio album by American heavy metal band Becoming the Archetype. The album was recorded between May 21 and June 17 and released on September 18, 2012, through Solid State Records. This album is a departure from the previous effort, as Seth Hecox says, "gone are the sitars and horns of Celestial Completion. Instead, we've crafted an album full of the heaviest and most technical songs we've ever written.” It is the first and only release by the band to feature Chris McCane on vocals, Codey Watkins on bass, and Chris Heaton on drums. Guitarist/vocalist Seth Hecox was the only original member from the debut album featured on I Am. The first single to promote the album was the song "The Time Bender", released on August 28, 2012, as well a lyric video and an official video.

As They Sleep is an American extreme metal band from Detroit, Michigan. They have released two albums and an EP.

Joseph Stephen Musten is an American musician who started his musical career in 1999. He formed Beloved, Advent, Your Son Is Dead, and Torn. In 2008, he joined the band The Almost after former drummer Kenny Bozich quit the band. Joe was featured in the December 2009 issue of DRUM Magazine alongside former bandmate Aaron Gillespie. He formed the band, Torn, and was featured on the self-titled debut album, but was un-credited.

UnTeachers is a heavy metal band from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, United States. The band has released a split EP with Grace & Thieves, and a full-length album, titled, A Human Comedy which debuted No. 10 on Seth Werkheiser's Top 10 of 2014.

Broken Flesh is a Christian death metal band, formed in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, in 2004. The band has released three studio albums, Forever In Flames in 2009, Warbound in 2013, and Broken Flesh in 2015. They have released one extended play, Stripped, Stabbed, and Crucified, in 2012.

Children of the Great Extinction is the sixth studio album by American heavy metal band Becoming the Archetype. The album was released on August 26, 2022, through Solid State. It is the band's first album in ten years since their hiatus, and also features the return of Jason Wisdom and Brent "Duck" Duckett to the band with Seth Hecox, the first album to have this lineup since Celestial Completion. The album was produced by Nate Washburn, and the album artwork was designed once again by Dan Seagrave, who had created the artworks for three of their albums.

In 1999, I got together with a few high school buddies in my best friend's basement to make some music. One of the first songs I remember trying to cover was "Reject" by Living Sacrifice. Fast forward to 2010, and I did my final tour with Becoming the Archetype. That tour was in support of Living Sacrifice. Several times on that tour, I was honored to do guest vocals on "Reject." Now it is 2016, and I am leaving for my first "tour dates" with my new band, Death Therapy. Who are we opening for? None other than the great Living Sacrifice. This may not seem like a big deal to you...but it is HUGE for me.
