Jasper Aerents (born 18 December 1992) is a Belgian swimmer, who specialized in sprint freestyle events. [1] [2]

Career

He won two bronze medals, as a member of the Belgian swimming team, in the 4×50 m freestyle relay at the 2011 European Short Course Swimming Championships in Szczecin, Poland, and at the 2012 European Short Course Swimming Championships in Chartres, France. [3] [4] He also captured a silver medal in the 50 m freestyle at the 2010 European Junior Swimming Championships in Helsinki, Finland by a quarter of a second (0.25) behind Ukraine's Andriy Hovorov, in a personal best of 22.79. [5]

Aerents is a member of Regal Swimming Club (Dutch : Koninklijke Brugse Zwemkring) in Belgium, and is coached and trained by Rik Valcke. [1] [6]

Aerents qualified for two swimming events at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, by clearing a FINA B-standard entry time of 22.42 (50 m freestyle) from the Nancy Long Course Invitational in Nancy, France. [7] [8] He also teamed up with Dieter Dekoninck, Emmanuel Vanluchene, and Pieter Timmers in the 4 × 100 m freestyle relay. Swimming the second leg, Aerents recorded a split of 48.34, but the Belgian team rounded out the finale to last place in 3:14.40. [9] [10] [11] In the 50 m freestyle, Aerents topped the fifth heat by 0.21 of a second ahead of China's Shi Yang in 22.43, just a 0.01-second deficit from his entry time and personal best. Aerents failed to advance into the semifinals, as he placed twenty-second out of 58 swimmers in the preliminaries. [12]

Yannick Agnel is a French former competitive swimmer who specialized in freestyle events, and is a three-time Olympic medalist. In his Olympic debut at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, he won gold in the 200-meter freestyle, gold in the 4×100-meter freestyle relay, and silver in the 4×200-meter freestyle relay. He is the current world record holder in the 400-meter freestyle, the European record holder in the 800-meter freestyle, and the national record holder in the 200- and 400-meter freestyle.

Stacchiotti also holds numerous meet records and collects a total of 49 medals from the Games of the Small States of Europe. Laurent Carnol is a Luxembourgish swimmer, who specialized in breaststroke events. Carnol set national records of 1:01.39 and 2:09.78 in the men's breaststroke at the 2010 European Aquatics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, and at the 2012 European Long Course Meet in Luxembourg City, respectively. Carnol is also a member of SC Le Dauphin Ettelbruck under his personal coach Ian Armiger, and currently, a chemistry student at Loughborough University in Leicestershire, England.

Glenn Surgeloose is a Belgian swimmer, who specializes in sprint freestyle events. He collected a bronze medal in the 200 m freestyle at the 2007 European Junior Swimming Championships in Antwerp, Belgium. Surgeloose is a member of Brabo Antwerp, and is coached and trained by Ronald Gaastra.

Pavel Paulavich Sankovich is a Belarusian swimmer, who specialized in sprint backstroke and butterfly events. He represented his native Belarus in three editions of the Olympic Games, and has won a total of seven bronze medals in major international competition, in both the long and short course European Championships.

Marcin Tarczyński is a Polish swimmer, who specialized in freestyle and backstroke events. He is a silver medalist at the 2008 European Junior Swimming Championships in Belgrade, Serbia, and later represented Poland at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. While studying in the United States, Tarczynski also holds a school record and 200 m individual medley title at the 2012 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships.

Pieter Timmers is a Belgian retired competitive swimmer who specialized in sprint freestyle events. He won the silver medal in the 100 meter freestyle at the 2016 Olympics. Timmers currently holds nine Belgian records, and seven national titles in long and short course freestyle. Timmers is a resident athlete for Brabo Antwerp, and trains under his personal coach Ronald Gaastra. He stands 2.00 m, and weighs 89 kg (196 lb). He ended his career in Budapest in the second season of the International Swimming League in 2020.

Yauhen Mikalaevich Tsurkin is a Belarusian swimmer, who specialized in sprint freestyle and butterfly events.

François Heersbrandt is a Belgian swimmer. He competed in the 100 m butterfly event at the 2012 Summer Olympics and was eliminated in the semi-finals despite setting a new Belgian record (52.22) in his qualifying heat. Heersbrandt competed in the same event at the 2008 Summer Olympics but was eliminated after the qualifying heats. At the 2016 Summer Olympics, he competed in the 50 m freestyle but did not progress beyond the first round.

Sebastián Rodríguez Veloso is a Spanish Paralympic swimmer. He has competed at four Paralympic Games winning fifteen medals: eight gold, four silver and three bronze. His attendance at the Games was controversial after it was revealed that he had been jailed for bomb attacks while a member of First of October Anti-Fascist Resistance Groups (GRAPO).

Yoris Grandjean is a Belgian swimmer, who specialized in sprint freestyle events. He won two gold medals at the 2006 FINA Youth World Swimming Championships, and later represented Belgium at the 2008 Summer Olympics. Since 2009, he still currently holds a Belgian record (22.13) in the 50 m freestyle from the national championships in Antwerp. Grandjean also trains for Liège Swimming Club under his head coach Andre Henvaux.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Denis Tarasov</span> Russian Paralympic swimmer

Denis Tarasov is a Paralympic swimmer from Russia competing mainly in category S8 events. At the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London he won five medals, including gold in the 50 metre freestyle S8 event. He has represented Russia at two IPC World Championships with a total of 12 medals. At the 2015 IPC Swimming World Championships in Glasgow he set four world records, two as part of Russian relay teams and two individual records, in the 50m and 100m freestyle S8 events.
