Jati Umra (Punjabi, Urdu : جاتی امرا) is a neighbourhood located within union council 124 (Sultanke) in Iqbal Tehsil of Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan.

History

Jati Umra is Sharif family's palatial estate near Lahore and is named after their Indian ancestral town of Jati Umra, Amritsar district, near Amritsar in Punjab, India. [1] Mian Muhammad Sharif was born and lived in India's Jati Umra before migrating to Lahore in 1932. [2] [3] [4]

Jati Umra is a small village, located, appx. 40 km from Amritsar city in the Amritsar district of Indian state of Punjab. Pakistan's well-known businessman Muhammad Sharif belonged to Jati Umrah. He left his everything in India and moved to Pakistan in 1947. the co-founder of Ittefaq Group and founder of Sharif Group. Two of his three sons, Nawaz and Shehbaz became Prime Ministers of Pakistan.

Shehbaz Sharif served the longest tenure in history as chief minister of Punjab spanning over 11 years of rule. His tenures involved the 1997 Nawaz Government, the 2008 Pakistan Peoples Party's regime and the 2013 PML-N's rule. His prominent contribution involves infrastructure development, transit projects and power plants. He has developed flyovers, road infrastructures, transit services and power projects. He is best known for his dedication, working speed, ability to execute mega projects and quick actions. However, he is also heavily criticised over lack of priorities, spending development funds mostly in Lahore and large cities, keeping major power and assignments within himself, nepotism, conflict of interests, and misuse of authority by opposition parties.
