Javaid Edward Siddiqi (born April 9,1977) is an American educator and former government official. He served as Virginia Secretary of Education under Governor Bob McDonnell from November 2013 to January 2014. He is currently president and CEO of the Hunt Institute,an education-focused nonprofit.
Siddiqi is a lifelong resident of Chesterfield County,Virginia. [1] The son of a father from Pakistan and a mother from New York,Siddiqi grew up in Ettrick,Virginia. [2]
His father was a professor at Virginia State University. [3] Siddiqi attended Chesterfield County Public Schools from kindergarten until his graduation from Matoaca High School.
He initially attended Longwood University,but chose instead to study at Richard Bland College,a community college. [3] He received his associate's degree from Richard Bland College in 1998. [4] He later attended the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU),graduating with a bachelor's degree in biology. He later received a master's degree in educational leadership Virginia State University. [3] In 2012,he obtained his doctorate in educational leadership from VCU. [4]
Prior to joining the McDonnell Administration,he worked as a teacher,and served as principal of Robious Middle School for approximately four years. [3] During his time as principal,he met then-Secretary of Education Gerard Robinson,whom he stayed in contact with several years after to discuss policy matters. [1]
In 2011,he was appointed as Deputy Secretary of Education of Virginia by Governor Bob McDonnell. His nomination came at the recommendation of Secretary Robinson. [1]
Sidiqui was made Secretary of Education in November 2013. [3] Siddiqi stated that his ascension from principal to the highest education official in Virginia stemmed from McDonnell's desire to have a Secretary with real-world experience. He stated that he did not expect to have been chosen for the position. [1]
Following Terry McAuliffe's inauguration as Governor after his victory in the 2013 gubernatorial election,Siddiqi was replaced in his position by Anne Holton. [1]
In 2014,he joined the Hunt Institute,a nonprofit organization founded by former Governor of North Carolina Jim Hunt that specializes in education matters. Three years after joining the organization,he was named as its president and CEO. [3]
In 2016,he was elected to serve on the Chesterfield County School Board,representing the Midlothian district. He was elected chair of the board in 2017. [5] He served on the board until January 2020. [6] [7]
In 2019,Siddiqi ran for a position on the Midlothian Board of Supervisors,receiving the Democratic nomination for the role. His campaign centered on his belief that the Board of Supervisors has neglected to invest in education. [8] He lost to Republican candidate Leslie Takacs Haley by a 53.3% to 44.4% margin. [9]
Siddiqi is married and has two children. [10]

Bon Air is a census-designated place (CDP) in Chesterfield County,Virginia,United States. The population was 18,022 at the 2020 census. The community is considered a suburb of the independent city of Richmond in the Richmond-Petersburg region and is a part of the Southside neighborhoods. Originally developed as a resort,a central portion of Bon Air has been designated as a National Historic District with many structures of Victorian design from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Its name means "good air," reflecting its role as a resort getaway that wealthy Richmonders enjoyed for its fresh air as opposed to the dirty air of Richmond's industrial downtown of the late 19th century.

Additionally,high school students can enroll in 13 specialty centers,two technical centers,one career academy,and two Governor's Schools.
Richard Bland College (RBC) is a public junior college associated with the College of William &Mary and located in South Prince George in Prince George County,Virginia. Richard Bland College was established in 1960 by the Virginia General Assembly as a branch of the College of William and Mary under the umbrella of "the Colleges of William and Mary". The "Colleges" system lasted two years. Although the other three institutions such as Christopher Newport founded as colleges of William and Mary became independent colleges and later universities,Richard Bland has continued as a junior college of the College of William and Mary. Though under its own administration,Richard Bland College is governed by William and Mary's Board of Visitors. It was named after Virginia statesman Richard Bland who lived in Prince George County where the campus is located.

This is the newer campus of the school;the old school campus was converted into a middle school,known currently as Matoaca Middle School. The school's mascot is the Warrior. Matoaca is well known for its sports and its technology specialty center.
Henry Leander Marsh III is an American civil rights lawyer and politician. A Democrat,Marsh was elected by the city council as the first African-American mayor of Richmond,Virginia in 1977. He was elected to the Senate of Virginia in 1991,and resigned from his seat in 2014. Marsh represented the 16th district,consisting of the city of Petersburg,Dinwiddie County,and parts of the city of Richmond,and Chesterfield and Prince George counties. Marsh is now a commissioner on the Virginia Department of the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board,a position to which he received appointment from Governor Terry McAuliffe promptly after his departure from the Senate in 2014.

He is a member of the Republican Party.
Marvin Kirkland Cox is an American retired politician and educator. A Republican and a former high school teacher,he served in the Virginia House of Delegates from 1990 to 2022,representing the 66th District. From 2018 to 2020,he served as the 55th Speaker of the House of Delegates. Cox served as House Majority Leader from 2010 to 2018 and House Majority Whip from 2004 to 2010.

The 2017 Virginia Attorney General election was held on November 7,2017. The incumbent attorney general,Democrat Mark Herring,was expected to run for governor,but announced he would run for re-election instead. As only Herring and Republican John Adams qualified for their respective party primaries,the two automatically became their parties' nominees. In the general election,Herring defeated Adams to win a second term as Attorney General of Virginia.
Todd Patterson Haymore is an American civil servant who served as Virginia Secretary of Commerce and Trade in the administration of Governor Terry McAuliffe. He previously served as the Virginia Secretary of Agriculture and Forestry under Governor Bob McDonnell and Terry McAuliffe. The 2021 Virginia gubernatorial election was held on November 2,2021,to elect the next governor of Virginia. The election was concurrent with other elections for Virginia state offices. Incumbent Democratic governor Ralph Northam was ineligible to run for re-election,as the Constitution of Virginia prohibits governors from serving consecutive terms. Businessman Glenn Youngkin won the Republican nomination at the party's May 8 convention,which was held in 37 polling locations across the state,and was officially declared the nominee on May 10. The Democratic Party held its primary election on June 8,which former governor Terry McAuliffe easily won.
Richmond,Virginia,held a general election on November 3,2020. Voters elected the mayor of Richmond,Virginia,members of the Richmond City Council,and several other local officials. The incumbent,Levar Stoney,who was elected in 2016,ran for reelection,facing five challengers. While local races in Virginia are officially nonpartisan elections,four candidates identified with the Democratic party while Griffin ran as an independent. Stoney won the most votes in six out of nine city council districts,and therefore won reelection. In order to win election,a candidate must receive the most votes in five or more districts.
The 2025 Virginia lieutenant gubernatorial election will be held on November 4,2025,to elect the lieutenant governor of Virginia. Incumbent Republican Lieutenant Governor Winsome Sears has said she will not run for re-election to a second term in office,instead choosing to run for governor.
