Jeffrey Allen (born 23 April 1946, Matlock, Derbyshire) is an English rock and blues session drummer. Allen is best known for his work with East of Eden, Snowy White, Bonnie Tyler, Mick Taylor and Van Morrison.

He is not to be confused, although in many listings often is, with the similarly named former drummer with the British glam rock outfit, Hello, whose brother is Ultravox's Chris Cross.

Biography

Allen became the drummer with the Glasgow based band, The Beatstalkers, [1] who played residencies at the Marquee Club in London, and the Frankfurt and Cologne 'Storeyville' clubs. [2] Allen joined East of Eden in 1971, [1] and his percussion work appeared on five of their albums in the 1970s. In the early 1980s, working as a freelance session musician, Allen played on albums recorded by Bonnie Tyler ( Goodbye to the Island ), Murray Head ( Voices ) and John Martyn ( Well Kept Secret ). [3] In 1986, Allen joined Snowy White's Blues Agency, [4] and drummed on their 1988 album, Change My Life . [3]

In 1995, Allen teamed up with both Mick Taylor and Snowy White for their live album, Arthur's Club-Geneve 1995 . [3] In 2003, Allen played drums on Baghdad by Ilham al-Madfai. [3] He also played backing Mick Taylor and Max Middleton at London's Cadogan Hall in 2012.

Most recent duties include party planning for the Brunei Royal Family in London, which led to his appointment as executive producer of music concerts for Sensible Music, London.. [5]

"Sweet Virginia" is the sixth track on the Rolling Stones' 1972 double album Exile On Main St.. This album was mostly recorded in Villa Nellcôte, France, as well as recorded in 1970 at Olympic Studios, with vocal overdubs added in early 1972 at Sunset Sound Studios, "Sweet Virginia" is a slow country-inspired song, written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. The song features a harmonica solo by Jagger, and a saxophone solo by Bobby Keys. Charlie Watts plays a country shuffle rhythm. An alternate version without the backing singers was released on bootlegs. The version of the song that the band re-recorded for Stripped is featured in Martin Scorsese's 1995 film Casino, and the original recording is played over the closing credits of Rian Johnson's 2019 film Knives Out.

Max Middleton Musical artist

David Maxwell Middleton is an English composer and keyboardist and was originally a docker on the London docks. Middleton is known for his work on the Fender Rhodes Electric piano, the Minimoog synthesiser and his percussive playing style of the Hohner Clavinet. He started his professional music career by playing keyboards for Jeff Beck and is best known for his work on Beck's Blow by Blow. He was the pianist on some pieces on the first album by TRUST, "préfabriqué".

Ilham al-Madfai is an Iraqi guitarist, singer and composer. al-Madfai's synthesis of Western guitar stylings with traditional Iraqi music has made him a popular performer in his native country and throughout the Middle East.
