Jessie Elland (born 2000) is an English actress and author. Elland is known for her role as Chloe Harris in the ITV1 soap opera Emmerdale . She is set to release her first novel, The Ladie Upstairs, in 2025.
Elland was born in 2000 in Darlington, County Durham. Elland has stated that going to drama school was not an option for her, so she initially studied anthropology at the University of Manchester, as well as auditing a drama course. However, after a week, she switched to a full-time drama course, as well as doing extracurricular drama. [1] After doing modelling work, Elland made her television debut in two episodes of the Sky One drama series COBRA . [2]
In 2021, Elland was cast in the ITV1 soap opera Emmerdale as Chloe Harris. [3] [4] It was confirmed that her character would be linked to Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) and she was introduced as the sister of Gemma Harris, a dead teenager whose heart was given to Sarah in a heart transplant three years prior to Chloe's introduction. [5] [6] She stayed on the series until 2023; her storylines during her tenure included escaping from her controlling father, being stalked by Noah Dingle (Jack Downham), discovering her mother is Kerry Wyatt (Laura Norton), having a baby with Mackenzie Boyd (Laurence Robb), falling from a cliff and blackmailing Mackenzie into sole custody of her child. [7] [8] Following her exit, she toured in a production of 101 Dalmatians in 2024. [9] [10] Also in 2024, she announced that she had a written a novel, The Ladie Upstairs. [11] She explained that since she was six, she had wanted to be an author and an actress and was overjoyed to have achieved both of her goals. Emmerdale is a British television soap opera that is broadcast on ITV. The show is set in Emmerdale, a fictional village in the Yorkshire Dales. Created by Kevin Laffan, Emmerdale Farm was first broadcast on 16 October 1972. Interior scenes have been filmed at the Leeds Studios since its inception. Exterior scenes were first filmed in Arncliffe in Littondale, and the series may have taken its name from Amerdale, an ancient name of Littondale. Exterior scenes were later shot at Esholt, but are now shot at a purpose-built set on the Harewood estate.

This is initially explained through her grief for her dead sister, but later into her tenure, it is revealed that she has a controlling father who is in prison. Chloe's family home is installed with several cameras and her father hires numerous people to watch over her. Eventually, Kerry Wyatt, her housekeeper and secret biological mother, helps her to escape and invites her to live with Kerry in the Emmerdale village.
