The Jhala also called Makwana and Makhwan is a Chandravanshi Rajput clan, [1] [2] mentioned among the 36 royal races in the Kumarapala-prabandha list that ruled over Jhalavad region of Gujarat and parts of Rajasthan. Harpal Dev Makwana was the founder of Jhala clan.
Jhalas take descent from the Makwana Rajputs. Harpaldev was the last surviving Makwana Rajput, who established Jhala Dynasty. He was the 25th descendant of Kirpala dev who established theMakwana Dynasty in Kertigadh or Karenti in Sindh. Kirpala was the descendant of Grahavarmana of Maukhari Dynasty. [3]
After the fall of Maukhari dynasty, Chachdev Maukhari, brother of Grahavarman Maukhari,established his throne near Kannauj. Later his son Shaldev Maukhari established his throne at Sikri. Shaldev was succeeded by his son Kirpaldev whose kingdom was later taken over by his younger brother. Later, Kirpaldev moved towards Sindh and defeated local Baloch chieftains and established Makwana Dynasty with the capital Kertigadh. [4] [5]

Once the children of Harpaldev were playing in a yard where a furious elephant came running towards the kids. Shakti-De snatched up the kids, Snatching up in Gujarati is called "Jhallvun". Due to this event Makwanas were called Jhalas from then, [6] [7] and The ruler was called Jhalleshwar instead of Rajeshwar. [8]
One of the 13 sons of Harpal dev, Bapuji married a tribal Koli women due to which he was outcasted from the family and his descendants claim to be Makwana-Kolis [9] and were considered of low origin and couldn't be called Rajputs. [10] Later some of the makwana-Kolis converted to Islam. [11]
After the fall of Makwana dynasty of Sindh, Harpaldev Makwana moved to Gujarat and established the Jhala dynasty (Zalawad/Jhalavad) in the year 1093. Jhalas were vassal Rulers under Chaulukyas and Vaghelas. In 1460's Zalawad was divided into Halvad-Dhrangadhra and Limdi states but Limbdi remained as a vassal of Halvad-Dhrangadhra state. Jhalavad region was ruled by Jhalas till 1949 until accession to India. [12]

The Maukhari dynasty was the ruling house of the Kingdom of Kannauj and controlled the vast plains of Ganga-Yamuna for over six generations from their capital at Kannauj. They earlier served as vassals of the Guptas. The Maukharis established their independence during the mid 6th century. The dynasty ruled over much of Uttar Pradesh and Magadha. Around 606 CE, a large area of their empire was reconquered by the Later Guptas of Magadha. According to Hieun-Tsang, the territory may have been lost to King Shashanka of the Gauda Kingdom, who declared independence circa 600CE.

Raijada or Raizada are one of the Rajput clans .They are off-shoot of Chudasama Rajputs.The name Raijada was adopted by one Bhupatsinh, son of Ra' Mandlik, who was given jagir of Sorath The Raijada, Rana, Sarvaiya and Chudasama consider themselves brothers, they off-shoot branches from Chudasama, so they do not intermarry, as per their Rajput traditions. Until independence of India, they held extensive Jagirs near Keshod and Chorwad in Sorath.
Dhrangadhra State was a princely state during the British Raj in India. The town of Dhrangadhra served as its capital. It was also known as Halvad-Dhrangadhra State. Halvad once had been the capital of this state. In 1735, Dhrangadhra was founded as its new capital.
The Baria Koli, or Baraiya Koli, Bareeya Koli and Bariya Koli is a clan (Gotra) of the Koli caste found in the Indian State of Gujarat and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. the Devgad Baria was their Stronghold or given their name to Baria State in Gujarat. according to the historian Y.V.S Nath, the ruling royal family of Baria State is original Koli by caste but later they claimed to be of Kshatriya origin to be in high status among other Princely States.

The Gohil dynasty or Gohil or Guhilas of Saurashtra ruled parts of Saurashtra region of present-day Gujarat state of India as subordinates or independents starting 12th century. Their origin is traced to Guhila dynasty of Gujarat and they had migrated to Saurashtra in 12th century. The earliest known inscription of Gohils is found from Mangrol. They later moved to the east coast where they established themselves and the region came to be known as Gohilwar and ruled till the independence of India in 1947. The erstwhile princely states of Bhavnagar, Palitana, Lathi, Vala and Rajpipla belonged to Gohil rulers.
Raj Jhalleshvar Maharaj Rana Ajay Singh Jhala, known as Ajja Jhala or Ajoji, was the 25th ruler of Jhalavad (Dhrangadhra). He was an important vassal of Mewar during Rana Sanga's period. He played a crucial role in the battles of Bayana, Dholpur and Khanwa. He wore the royal insignia of Rana Sanga and was reputed to have saved Sanga's life in battle of Khanwa.
Harpaldev Makwana was the founder of Jhalavad and Jhala clan of Rajputs. He was last the only surviving Makwana rajput of Karentigadh.
