Assamese cinema is the Indian film industry of Assamese language. It is based in Assam, India. The industry was born in 1935 when Jyoti Prasad Agarwala released his movie Joymoti. Since then the Assamese cinema has developed a slow-paced, sensitive style. In the beginning the industry were called Jollywood, for Agarwala's Jyoti Chitraban Film Studio.
Biju Phukan; 18 February 1947 – 22 November 2017) was an Assamese actor. He was born in Dibrugarh, India, where he studied in the Dibrugarh HS Kanoi College and Dibrugarh Govt boys' higher secondary school Dibrugarh. He appeared in more than eighty Assamese feature films. Suren Suror Putek is a 2005 Indian Assamese language comedy drama movie directed by Chandra Mudoi. The title role is played by Jatin Bora. This is the first Assamese film to highlight the art of magic and the talented magicians of the state.

Mahim Bora was an Indian writer and educationist from Assam. He was elected as a president of the Assam Sahitya Sabha held in 1989 at Doomdooma. He was awarded most notably the Padma Shri in 2011, the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2001 and the Assam Valley Literary Award in 1998. Assam Sahitya Sabha conferred its highest honorary title Sahityacharyya on him in 2007.He also participated in the Quit India Movement of 1942 held in Kaliabor town in the Nagaon district of Assam.
Raamdhenu is a 2011 Indian Assamese romantic drama film directed by veteran Munin Barua and produced by Pride East Entertainments Private Limited. It stars an ensemble cast of Jatin Bora, Prastuti Porasor, Tapan Das, Utpal Das and Nishita Goswami in the lead roles. The film was released in 24 cinema halls across Assam on 4 February 2011. The music is composed by Jatin Sharma.
Dwaar is a 2013 Indian Assamese drama film directed by Bidyut Chakravarty, with his own screenplay, and produced by Sanjive Narain and Bidyut Chakravarty himself. It was adapted from the Assamese short story Bahiroloi Jowa Baat by Apurba Sarma. Dwaar stars Kapil Bora, Zerifa Wahid and Mahika Sharma in the lead roles. The literal translation of the title means Door.
Baandhon is a 2012 Assamese language drama film, starring Bishnu Kharghoria and Bina Patangia in the lead roles. The film was directed by Jahnu Barua and produced by Assam State Film Corporation Limited. The film was initially released on 26 October 2012 in the state of Assam and later on 5 July 2013 in selected PVR theaters across rest of India.
Jupitora Bhuyan is an Indian actress works in the Assamese films. She worked in a few Assamese films along with VCD films and telefilms. She is also part of Assamese mobile theatre industry debut by playing lead female roles in Kohinoor Theatre. She is especially known for playing extraordinary character with a powerful appearance.
The Prag Cine Awards North-East 2015 ceremony, presented by the Prag Network, honored the actors, technical achievements, and films censored in 2014 from Assam and rest of Northeast India, and took place on 21–22 March 2015, at the Chowkidingee field in Dibrugarh, Assam. This was the first time when films produced in other Northeastern states were also honored in this ceremony. Assamese actress Nishita Goswami and television host Nabish Alam hosted the show. Film fraternities from Northeast as well as Bollywood personalities such as Neha Dhupia, Gulshan Grover, Adil Hussain were present in this event.
Nishita Goswami is an Indian actress who works in Assamese language films. Her notable Assamess Movies are Rong, Ratnakar, Hold My Hand, Mon, etc. She has also acted in a number of stage dramas.
Doordarshan Eti Jantra(English: Television a Machine) is a 2016 Indian Assamese language period comedy drama film directed by Rajesh Bhuyan and produced by Sanjiv Narain under the banner of AM Television. The story is based on National School of Drama's alumnus Himanshu Prasad Das's play Ekhon Gaonot Eta TV Asil. Director Rajesh Bhuyan is also the co screenplay writer along with Santanu Rowmuria. The original playwright Himanshu Prasad Das, and Santanu Rowmuria wrote the dialogues of the film. The film stars many of the renowned actors of Assamese film industry including Jatin Bora, Utpal Das, Prastuti Porasor and Moonmi Phukan in lead role. Released on 2 September 2016 in almost 50 theaters in Assam and Meghalaya (Shillong), the film has already become a superhit in Assam. It is the 12th highest grossing Assamese film.
Hosa Prem, English title 'Capturing True Love' is an Assamese language romantic comedy film by Pramod Sahoo released on 5 January 2018. The film is written by Pramod Sahoo and produced by Aabegg Entertainment Pvt Ltd. It stars Shree Brojen Bora, Kalpa Jyoti Gogoi and Tapashree Kalita in lead roles.
Beharbari Outpost is an Assamese Indian comedy television series which airs on Rengoni. The series revolves around Beharbari police station. The series first aired on 7 October 2013. It is the longest running series on the channel and in Assam.
Ratnakar: A New Myth of Love is a 2019 Indian Assamese-language action thriller film directed by Jatin Bora and produced by Bora and Navanita Sharma's J.B. Production. The film stars Bora and Barsha Rani Bishaya, with Nishita Goswami, Pabitra Bora, Chetana Das, and Sanjeev Hazarika in supporting roles and features young Ashramika Saikia. It is the adaptation of 2016 Tamil film Theri.
Raghav is an Indian Assamese-language action film produced by JB Production and directed by Jatin Bora. The film's cast includes Jatin Bora, Nishita Goswami, Mridula Boruah, Hiranya Deka and Sumi Borah. It was released on 27 October 2023. It is the 5th highest grossing Assamese film.
