James David Koehler (born July 13, 1966), better known by his screen name Jim Koehler or Mr. Excitement, is a professional monster truck driver. He currently drives Avenger on the USHRA Monster Jam circuit.

Career

Koehler completed Avenger in 1997. Both the driver and the truck were relatively unknown until a breakout appearance at the Minneapolis Monster Jam event in the Metrodome in November, 1999. The event included the USHRA's first judged freestyle competition, and Koehler scored a 29 out of a possible 30 points to finish behind Tom Meents in Bulldozer with a high-energy run that showed the influence of Meents and Dennis Anderson. When the event aired on TNN in January, the run, combined with Koehler's high-energy pit interviews made him an overnight star on the Monster Jam circuit. He is also known to change the color and paint job of his truck in every World Finals since 2004.

Later that season, Koehler made the highlight reel again in the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans with a massive cartwheel crash in the final round of racing against Rob Knell and NWO. That run added to Koehler's already growing reputation as a "wildman", and it earned him a berth in the first ever Monster Jam World Finals thanks to fan votes.

Koehler continued to maintain his wild reputation, however did not win many freestyles due to often hurting the truck before the end of the allotted time. Some also felt that he was underscored on freestyles due to early draws. However, he was an annual World Finalist and is one of the few drivers to be invited to all twelve. A body change from a Chevy S-10 to a 1957 Chevy Bel Air also helped to increase his popularity. During this time he also expanded his team to include Brutus, owned and driven by Chris Bergeron.

In 2003, Koehler won the biggest award of his career, the Monster Jam World Finals Freestyle Championship. It pushed Koehler's popularity through the roof and he has won several freestyles since. He also won this award in 2011, after a 32-point tie with nitro circus. On November 14, 2009, he drove the Aussie Avenger in the South Pacific World Finals 2 and won freestyle.

Unlike other owner/drivers, the monster truck is not Koehler's primary job. He owns and operates a marina in Chesterfield, near his hometown of Columbus, Michigan.

In 2020, Koehler completed his first mini-flip off of an 8-pack wheelie ramp at Indianapolis, IN, during its second show.

Trademarks

Koehler's freestyles are typically full of momentum and very hectic. He will often hit obstacles at unconventional angles and will "cross-thread" the track, similar to Anderson and Meents. Avenger's soft suspension often leads to the truck getting into contorted positions which other trucks cannot manage. Koehler uses this to his advantage, and his strongest move is his ability to save the truck from a rollover, which results in long "side surf" two-wheel runs.

At the World Finals, Koehler has built up a long-standing tradition of swimming in the pool on the track, sometimes even bringing scuba gear. He has also carried over this tradition to a normal show when he dived into the Ride Now! Pool at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona.

Off the track, Koehler is well known for being fan friendly and for his high-energy interviews. He has come to be known among fans by the nickname "Mr. Excitement". He has also appeared/competed in every consecutive Monster Jam World Finals (the only driver with the same named truck in every world finals)

Grave Digger is a monster truck racing team in the Feld Entertainment Monster Jam series founded by original driver Dennis Anderson. Considered one of the most famous and recognized monster trucks of all time, Grave Digger serves as the flagship team of the Monster Jam series, with seven active Grave Digger trucks being driven by different drivers to allow a truck to appear at every Monster Jam event.

2Xtreme Racing

2Xtreme Racing is a monster truck team consisting of the trucks Bounty Hunter, Scarlet Bandit and Iron Outlaw, all of which compete primarily on the USHRA Monster Jam circuit. The team is owned by Jimmy Creten, and includes Creten, his wife Dawn Creten, Trent Montgomery, and Todd Morey as drivers. Each truck features an old west theme with a character based on the truck's name. All three vehicles have competed in the Monster Jam World Finals, and Bounty Hunter was the 2005 World Finals Freestyle Champion and the 2019 World Finals Racing Champion. Blue Thunder (truck)

Blue Thunder is a monster truck that races in the USHRA Monster Jam series. It was originally sponsored by the truck division of Ford Motor Company and Live Nation. The truck has several similarities with the monster truck Bigfoot. Some fans saw Blue Thunder as a replacement for Bigfoot in the Monster Jam series. The truck has been moderately successful and won several major events during its existence. However, it has not yet won a championship. Blue Thunder was used by Ford Motor Company for promotional purposes along with competition. The truck is currently driven by Matt Cody. The truck did not compete in 2012 when Todd LeDuc moved to Metal Mulisha after driving Blue Thunder in 2011. With Ford dropping its sponsorship in 2012, the truck was redesigned and brought back in 2013 with veteran driver Dan Evans; former owner/driver of the Destroyer monster truck.

John Seasock

John Michael Seasock is a retired professional monster truck driver. He competed on the USHRA circuit with his Batman truck, where it was the 2007 and 2008 Monster Jam World Racing Champion. He last drove Grinder sponsored by Advance Auto Parts.

Sudden Impact (truck)

Sudden Impact is a monster truck currently racing in the USHRA Monster Jam series. The truck was originally driven by John Seasock and has been to four World Finals under his command. It is the first monster truck to implement a driveline blanket, made of Kevlar, which goes around the outside of the drive shaft loop to make sure that if the driveshaft breaks, the parts will not fly off the truck, possibly causing injury to fans and officials. In 2010 the truck was driven by a new driver Ben Winslow. He used to be George Balhan's crew chief. Another new thing is that it is now called Ground Pounder. The truck is currently driven by Mike Dufrene and Steven Hill and is the teammate to Amsoil Shock Therapy, driven by Jeremy Brady and Dave Radzierez. In the past, it has been driven by Dufrene, Hill, Winslow, Seasock, Carl Van Horn, Jon Zimmer, Sean Duhon, David Brown, Chris Lagana, Kevin Kosala, Chris Ryan, John Killinger, David Fray, and Casey Ladelle.

Thomas William Meents is an American professional monster truck driver. He currently drives Max-D on the Monster Jam circuit. He has won twelve Monster Jam World Finals championships during his career.

Dennis Anderson American monster truck driver (born 1960)

Dennis Montague Anderson is an American former professional monster truck driver. He is the creator, team owner, and former driver of "Grave Digger" on the USHRA Monster Jam circuit. Anderson is from Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, where he currently resides.

Predator (truck)

Predator Racing, Inc. is a monster truck team consisting of the trucks Predator, Prowler, Pouncer and Lone Eagle all of which currently compete primarily on the USHRA Monster Jam circuit. The team is owned by Allen Pezo, and includes Pezo, Larry Jaruzel, Lenny Kuilder and Dale Mitchell as drivers. The trucks are famous for their "cat" designs, with the trucks modeled after a panther, tiger, and leopard, respectively. The team also occasionally runs a conventional Dodge Ram by the name of Lone Eagle.

Monster Jam World Finals

The Monster Jam World Finals is an annual monster truck event that is the championship event of the Monster Jam series, consisting of racing and freestyle competitions, with the winner of each considered the World Champion in that competition for the past year. It is the highest profile monster truck event with the greatest media attention. From 2000 to 2018, the event was held in late March at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. Starting in 2019, the plan was to rotate venues each year, but instead it was decided the World Finals would be held at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida going forward.

Gary Porter is an American former monster-truck driver that races on the United States Hot Rod Association circuit. He is a former member of the Grave Digger team but returned to his Carolina Crusher truck in 2015. In July 2017, Gary Porter retired from monster truck driving after spending 32 years in the sport.

Adam Anderson (monster truck driver) American monster truck driver (born 1985)

Adam Anderson is an American professional monster truck driver. He currently drives Grave Digger on the Monster Jam circuit. Adam is the son of Grave Digger creator Dennis Anderson and the older brother of fellow drivers Ryan and Krysten Anderson. He is a 5-time Monster Jam World Champion. Adam currently resides in his hometown of Poplar Branch, North Carolina.

Monster Mutt

Monster Mutt is a monster truck from West Chicago, Illinois, competing in the United States Hot Rod Association (USHRA) Monster Jam series since 2003. Originally styled after a 1950 Mercury, and later a custom body, the truck has a canine motif, complete with big ears, tail and tongue. It is painted in two tones of brown, with a dog mouth drawn in the front. The truck has three spin offs, two of which are currently competing. It is currently driven by Tanner Root.

Captain's Curse was a monster truck created by Monster Jam and FELD Motorsports, and competed in the Monster Jam series from 2007 through 2016.

Avenger (truck)

The Avenger monster truck, piloted by Columbus, Michigan native Jim Koehler, was created in 1997 The original monster truck sported a forest green Chevrolet S10 body style and a teal chassis and rims. With the exception of World Finals 14, the Avenger truck has always sorted at least three flaming skulls and flowing flames running from the wheel wells. As time passed, the S10 body was replaced by a 1957 Chevrolet Bel-Air body with bright green headlights, which is the same body style that is run today by "Mr. Excitement."

Mohawk Warrior

Mohawk Warrior is a monster truck currently racing in the Monster Jam professional monster truck racing series. It is currently driven by Bryce Kenny, and was originally driven by George Balhan, former An Escalade driver, who debuted in 2010 during the Monster Jam World Finals XI Encore in the Obsession Chassis. It features one of the first trucks a decoration on the roof, which is a Giant Mohawk. The truck is also a successor to An Escalade. It also has an NGK Spark Plugs flag at the back of the truck, and was replaced by the Great Clips flags in 2017. It is sponsored by Great Clips since Bryce Kenny became the new driver of Mohawk Warrior after Balhan retired from Monster Jam.
