Ambriz made his professional debut in 2001 for the Arizona-based Rage in the Cage promotion. After amassing a record of 5–0, he faced former NJCAA wrestling standout and then-King of the Cage Super Heavyweight Champion Dan Bobish at KOTC: Double Cross. Ambriz won via first-round TKO, becoming the KOTC Super Heavyweight Champion]]. He then defended his title twice against Vince Lucero and Jonathan Ivey, respectively; both first-round finishes.
Ambriz was expected to face former WWE and TNA wrestling star Bobby Lashley on January 30, 2010, at Strikeforce: Miami, [1] but for reasons unknown, Ambriz was dropped as an opponent for Lashley. [2]
Ambriz stepped in for injured Jesse Wallace to fight Mike Guidry at Tachi Palace Fights 7 on December 2 in the heavyweight division. [3]
He then faced Bulgarian Lyubomir Simeonov at the MAXFIGHT-21 event, on May 27, 2011. [4] After numerous punches Ambriz was forced to tap in the first round.
Ambriz then fought at the first Super Fight League event, SFL 1, and he fought against Indian fighter Satish Jha. He won the fight via TKO 14 seconds into the first round. He was expected to return to the SFL at SFL 4 against Japan's Satoshi Ishii. [5] but due to the change in the organisation's structure the fight was scrapped. However at SFL 10, Ambriz stepped in for an injured Singh Jaideep to fight Mohamed Abdel Karim. Ambriz won via arm-triangle choke.
