Jimmy Matthew Herget ( /ˈhərɡɛt/ HER-get; [1] born September 9,1993) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Colorado Rockies of Major League Baseball (MLB). He has previously played in MLB for the Cincinnati Reds,Texas Rangers,Los Angeles Angels,and Atlanta Braves.
Herget graduated from Jefferson High School in Tampa,Florida,where he was an outfielder with its varsity baseball team. [2] He was originally selected by the Atlanta Braves in the 40th round of the 2012 MLB draft. He did not sign with the Braves and attended the University of South Florida to play college baseball for the South Florida Bulls. [3] [4]
In 2014,Herget played collegiate summer baseball with the Bourne Braves of the Cape Cod Baseball League. [5] In 2015,as a junior,he went 10–3 with a 2.92 ERA in 17 games (16 starts). [6]
The Cincinnati Reds selected Herget in the 22nd round of the 2015 MLB draft. [7] He made his professional debut with the Billings Mustangs and spent all of 2015 there,posting a 3–0 record with a 3.20 ERA and 26 strikeouts over
