Jimmy Dale Sexton (born December 15,1951) is an American former professional baseball infielder. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Seattle Mariners,Houston Astros,Oakland Athletics,and St. Louis Cardinals. Sexton signed his first professional contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1970. [1] In his minor league career,Sexton batted .282 with 951 hits in 3,373 at-bats,and 137 doubles,36 triples,and 30 home runs. In his major league career,Sexton batted .218 with 81 hits in 372 at-bats,with 9 doubles,3 triples,5 home runs,24 RBIs,and 36 stolen bases.
Sexton began his professional career within the Pittsburgh Pirates organization,playing for the rookie-level GCL Pirates of the Gulf Coast League in 1970. He batted .283 with 2 doubles in 33 games. The next season,Sexton continued to play for the GCL Pirates. He batted .244 with 2 doubles,and 1 triple in 35 games. In 1972,Sexton was promoted to the short-season Niagara Falls Pirates of the New York–Penn League. That season,Sexton batted .288 with 2 doubles,and 3 triples in 69 games. Sexton was promoted again to start the 1973 season,this time playing for the Class-A Salem Pirates of the Carolina League. In 124 games,Sexton batted .269 with 17 doubles,3 triples,and 3 home runs with Salem. The next season,he was promoted to the Double-A Thetford Mines Pirates of the Eastern League. Sexton batted .249 with 14 doubles,1 triples,3 home runs,32 RBIs,and 31 stolen bases. Sexton was fifth in the Eastern League in stolen bases. [2] Sexton stayed at the Double-A level in 1975,this time playing for the Shreveport Captains in the Texas League. He batted .274 with 23 doubles,5 triples,3 home runs,28 RBIs,and 48 stolen bases. [3] That season,Sexton led the Texas League in stolen bases. [4] In 1976,Sexton split the season between the Double-A Shreveport Captains,and the Triple-A Charleston Charlies of the International League. In 59 games at the Double-A level,Sexton batted .324 with 14 doubles,2 triples,4 home runs,30 RBIs,and 11 stolen bases in 207 at-bats. After his promotion to the Triple-A level that season,Sexton batted .273 with 8 doubles,1 triple,3 home runs,12 RBIs,and 13 stolen bases in 49 games.
On December 7,1976,the Pirates traded Sexton along with shortstop Craig Reynolds for left-handed pitcher Grant Jackson. [5] Despite making the major league roster in the beginning of the season,Sexton was assigned to the Triple-A San Jose Missions of the Pacific Coast League on April 8,1977. With the Missions,he batted .256 with 13 doubles,5 triples,2 home runs,23 RBIs,and 52 stolen bases. Sexton was third in the Pacific Coast League in stolen bases that season. [6] As a member of the Mariners' inaugural season,Sexton batted .216 with 1 double,1 triple,1 home run,3 RBIs,and 1 stolen bases in 14 games. Sexton made his major league debut on September 2,against the Toronto Blue Jays and in 4 at-bats,Sexton went without a hit. [7] Sexton's first hit was a single to left field on September 4,against Toronto Blue Jays' pitcher Jerry Garvin. [8] Sexton also hit his first major league home run that game in the 7–2 Mariners' win. [8]
Sexton was traded to the Houston Astros for Leon Roberts on December 6,1977. [9] In his first season with the Astros,1978,Sexton batted .206 with 3 doubles,2 triples,2 home runs,6 RBIs,and 16 stolen bases. Sexton played shortstop,second base,and third base for the Astros that season. The next season,Sexton again spent the entire season on the major league roster. In 52 games with Houston,Sexton batted .209 with 8 runs,1 RBIs,1 stolen bases,and 7 walks in 43 at-bats. In 1980,Sexton was assigned to the Triple-A Tucson Toros of the Pacific Coast League. During his stint with the Toros,Sexton batted .296 with 18 doubles,6 triples,1 home runs,33 RBIs,and 55 stolen bases. He was third in the Pacific Coast League in stolen bases that season,behind Marshall Edwards who had 68 stolen bases,and Kim Allen who had 84 stolen bases. [10]
The Houston Astros traded Sexton to the Oakland Athletics on February 13,1981,for a player to be named later or cash considerations. [11] That season,Sexton played for both the Athletics at the major league level and the Triple-A Tacoma Tigers of the Pacific Coast League. He began the season with the Tigers and batted .319 with 16 doubles,8 triples,4 home runs,35 RBIs,and 56 stolen bases. Sexton was tied with Rudy Law for second in the Pacific Coast League in stolen bases,behind Alan Wiggins who had 73 stolen bases. [12] Sexton made his A's debut on September 8,in a game where he replaced Wayne Gross as a pinch runner,and scored a run. [13] After 7 games with the Athletics in 1981,Sexton went hitless and stole 2 bases. In 1982,Sexton again split the season between the Triple-A Tacoma Tigers,and the major league Athletics. With the Tigers,Sexton batted .310 with 4 doubles,2 home runs,6 RBIs,and 9 stolen bases. Sexton played his first major league game of the season on April 8. [14] With Oakland,Sexton batted .245 with 4 doubles,2 home runs,14 RBIs,and 16 stolen bases. On June 6,1983,Sexton was designated for assignment, [15] and was later released by the Athletics. [1]
On June 23,1983,Sexton was signed by the Chicago White Sox. [1] He played for the Denver Bears,the Triple-A affiliate of the White Sox. On August 10,Sexton was released by the White Sox. [1]
Sexton signed with the St. Louis Cardinals on August 15,1983,and played for both the Triple-A Louisville Redbirds of the American Association,and the major league Cardinals. Between the Redbirds and the Bears in 1983,Sexton batted .300 with 4 doubles,1 triple,and 5 home runs. With the Cardinals,Sexton batted .111 in 6 games. The next season,Sexton played with the Triple-A Louisville Redbirds,and batted .217 in 9 games. That season,1984,would prove to be Sexton's last season in professional baseball.
Matthew Lawton,Jr. is an American former professional baseball player whose career spanned 15 seasons,including 12 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB). Lawton,an outfielder,made his major league debut September 5,1995,with the Minnesota Twins,who signed him four years prior. He also played in the majors with the New York Mets (2001),the Cleveland Indians (2002–04),the Pittsburgh Pirates (2005),the Chicago Cubs (2005),the New York Yankees (2005),and the Seattle Mariners (2006). Over his major league career,Lawton compiled a .267 batting average with 1,273 hits,267 doubles,17 triples,138 home runs,631 runs batted in (RBIs),165 stolen bases,and 681 walks in 1,334 games played.
Jason Jerome Ellison is an American former Major League Baseball outfielder. He attended Lewis-Clark State in Lewiston,Idaho,and made his major league debut on May 9,2003. As of the 2015 season,he was an area scout for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim based in Issaquah,Washington.
Eric James Byrnes,is a baseball analyst and former professional baseball outfielder. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Oakland Athletics,Colorado Rockies,Baltimore Orioles,Arizona Diamondbacks,and Seattle Mariners. Byrnes retired from playing in 2010 and was an analyst for MLB Network until 2021.
Vada Edward Pinson Jr. was an American professional baseball player and coach. He played as a center fielder in Major League Baseball for 18 years (1958–1975),most notably for the Cincinnati Reds,for whom he played from 1958 to 1968 as a four-time National League All-Star. He was inducted into the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame in 1977. The 5 ft 11 in (1.80 m),170 lb (77 kg) Pinson,who batted and threw left-handed,combined power,speed,and strong defensive ability. Pinson has the most hits of any retired batter not inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame,excluding those suspected of performance enhancing drug use or gambling.
Thomas Erwin McMillan is an American former professional baseball player whose career spanned seven seasons,including one in Major League Baseball with the Seattle Mariners (1977). As a member of the inaugural Mariners team,McMillan,a shortstop,went hitless in five at-bats. The majority of his career was spent in the minor leagues. After he was drafted out of Jacksonville University by the Cleveland Indians during the 1973 Major League Baseball Draft,McMillan made his professional debut that year with the Double-A San Antonio Brewers.
Joshua Aaron Wilson is an American former professional baseball infielder. Wilson is a Mt. Lebanon,Pennsylvania native. He was part of the 1998 Pennsylvania state championship baseball team and Pennsylvania Player of the Year. Wilson played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Florida Marlins,Washington Nationals,Tampa Bay Devil Rays,Arizona Diamondbacks,San Diego Padres,Seattle Mariners,Milwaukee Brewers,Texas Rangers and Detroit Tigers.
Daniel Thomas Meyer is an American former professional baseball player whose career spanned 17 seasons,12 of which were played in Major League Baseball (MLB) with the Detroit Tigers (1974–76),the Seattle Mariners (1977–81),and the Oakland Athletics (1982–85). Meyer primarily played first base,but also played left field,third base,and right field. He batted left-handed while throwing right-handed. During his playing career,Meyer was listed at 5 feet 11 inches (180 cm) and weighed 180 pounds (82 kg).

Kevin Patrick Pasley is a retired professional baseball player whose career spanned 12 seasons. For parts of four seasons,Pasley,a catcher,played in Major League Baseball (MLB) with the Los Angeles Dodgers,and the Seattle Mariners (1977–78). Over his career in the majors,he compiled a .254 batting average with eight runs scored,31 hits,seven doubles,one home run,and nine runs batted in (RBIs). Sean John Rodriguez is an American former professional baseball utility player who is currently a player development instructor for the Philadelphia Phillies. He previously played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Los Angeles Angels,Tampa Bay Rays,Pittsburgh Pirates,Atlanta Braves,Philadelphia Phillies and Miami Marlins. Rodriguez was drafted out of high school by the Angels in the third round of the 2003 Major League Baseball draft. He made his major league debut in 2008. While primarily a second baseman,Rodriguez played at every position in his MLB career except for catcher.
Carlos Antonio Morales López is a retired professional baseball player. Nicknamed "Chaflán" in his native Mexico,López spent seven seasons in professional baseball,including three seasons in Major League Baseball with the California Angels (1976),Seattle Mariners (1977),and the Baltimore Orioles (1978). Luis Felipe "Puchy" Delgado Robles is a retired professional baseball player who spent seven seasons in professional baseball,including part of a season (1977) in Major League Baseball with the Seattle Mariners. He played 13 games in his one-year major league career,and had four hits in 22 at-bats,with two runs batted in (RBIs). Over his minor league career,Delgado played for the Class-A Winter Haven Red Sox,the Class-A Winston-Salem Red Sox,the Triple-A Rhode Island Red Sox,and the Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox in the Boston Red Sox organization;the Triple-A San Jose Missions in the Seattle Mariners organization;the Triple-A Omaha Royals in the Kansas City Royals organization;and the Triple-A Wichita Aeros in the Chicago Cubs organization. In 765 career minor league games,Delgado batted .261 with 729 hits,89 doubles,33 triples,and 17 home runs.
Tito Angelo Nanni Jr. is a former professional baseball player. Over his career Nanni primarily played first base and outfield. Nanni played in the Seattle Mariners organization for the majority of his career. He also spent part of a season playing for the California Angels organization and for the Toronto Blue Jays organization. Nanni played seven seasons in minor league baseball,with a career batting average of .253 with a .384 slugging percentage,21 hits,122 doubles,22 triples,and 66 home runs in 2,775 at-bats.
Joe Clarence Hague was a professional baseball player. Over his eight-year career,Hague spent six in Major League Baseball. In 430 major league games,Hague batted .239 with 141 runs,286 hits,41 doubles,10 triples,40 home runs,and 163 runs batted in (RBIs). Over his major league career,Hague played first base,and outfield. Hague played for the St. Louis Cardinals and the Cincinnati Reds in his six-year major league career.
Fehlandt A. Lentini is a former American professional baseball player who last played as an outfielder with the Long Island Ducks. Lentini,an outfielder,has played with many different minor and independent league teams over his career,which began in 2001 with the Martinsville Astros of the rookie-level Appalachian League. He attended Sonoma State University and from there,was signed by the Houston Astros as an amateur free agent. In the Astros organization,he played with six different teams from 2001 to 2003. During the 2004 season,Lentini began his tenure in the independent league circuit,signing with the Kalamazoo Kings of the Frontier League. That season,was named a league all-star.
Robert Edward Grossman is an American professional baseball outfielder for the Texas Rangers of Major League Baseball (MLB). He has previously played in MLB for the Houston Astros,Minnesota Twins,Oakland Athletics,Detroit Tigers,Atlanta Braves,and Chicago White Sox. After attending high school in Texas,Grossman was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the sixth round in 2008. He made his MLB debut with the Astros in 2013. He won the 2023 World Series with the Rangers.

Cal Stevenson is an American professional baseball outfielder in the Philadelphia Phillies organization. He has played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Oakland Athletics and San Francisco Giants. Stevenson played college baseball for the University of Nevada,Reno Wolfpack,Chabot Junior College,and the University of Arizona. The Toronto Blue Jays selected Stevenson in the 10th round of the 2018 MLB draft.
