Jo-Ann Cindy Strauss (born 3 February 1981 in Cape Town) is a South African model, public speaker, businesswoman and beauty pageant titleholder. In 2001 she represented her country as Miss South Africa at the Miss Universe pageant in Puerto Rico as well as at the Miss World pageant hosted at Sun City in her home country in 2001. [1] She was featured in the 2001 music video of the Irish pop group Westlife's single "When You're Looking Like That".
Strauss obtained her bachelor's degree at the Stellenbosch University. During her reigning year as Miss South Africa, she started her media career with the Afrikaans TV magazine programme Pasella before anchoring the English lifestyle magazine show Top Billing (TV show) , for which she has interviewed the likes of Charlize Theron, Antonio Banderas and George Clooney. She featured as cover girl for many South African magazines. [2]
A year after Strauss was crowned Miss South Africa, she took part in the first and only celebrity version of Celebrity Big Brother (South African TV series), where she finished runner-up.
In 2010, Jo-Ann presented the opening ceremony for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa for the German television network ZDF along with Thomas Gottschalk in a live broadcast from Johannesburg on 10 June. [3]
In 2008, Strauss spearheaded the Princess Project [4] to give deserving young ladies the chance to go to their "Matric Balls" or "Proms" in designer dresses previously owned by South Africa's top celebrities. The idea behind her initiative was born of the fact that she herself went to her Matric Dance in a "previously-loved" designer dress which she bought with her mother at a second-hand store.
Strauss is one of South Africa's most respected media personalities and uses her profile and influence to help various initiatives. Her Princess Project has been supported by many South African and now international stars and has given dresses to over 80 young ladies thus far with the help of SA's top magazines YOU, Huisgenoot and Drum as well as Top Billing.
She partnered with the International Fashion Sale in 2010 and reached even more deserving young ladies in SA. [5] Similar initiatives exist around the world, enabling young girls to feel like modern princesses.
In 2014, Strauss was appointed a Celebrity Advocate for international child rights organization, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in South Africa.

Anneline Kriel is a South African actress, model and beauty pageant titleholder who won Miss South Africa 1974 and was later crowned Miss World 1974. The Miss South Africa is a national beauty pageant in South Africa that selects South African representatives to compete in one of the Big Four international beauty pageants Miss Universe, and also selects another representative to participate in Sub-major international pageant Miss Supranational. The Miss South Africa organisation resorted to a contemporary format in selecting representatives which was inaugurated in 2018. Following their newer method, both a Miss World South Africa and a Miss Universe South Africa were selected as representatives. From 2021 onwards, the winner of Miss South Africa will be competing in Miss Universe, and Miss Supranational. The current Miss South Africa 2023 is Natasha Joubert. On May 11, 2023, the Miss South Africa Organisation has lost its license as a Miss World licensee holder to Carol Bouwer Productions, which has taken over the license of Miss World South Africa pageant.

Top Billing was a South African lifestyle television programme that aired on SABC3 on Saturday evenings from 18:00–19:00 with repeats on Sundays at 12:00. It was founded by Basetsana Kumalo and Patience Stevens, who own the Tswelopele Production company. The show was the longest-running entertainment and lifestyle programme in South Africa, broadcasting since 1992. In addition to a variety of presenters, there was a voice-over guide throughout the programme. A magazine of the same name was launched in March 2004, containing similar content to the show.
Melinda Bam is a South African TV host, model and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss South Africa 2011, becoming the official representative of her country to Miss Universe 2012. She has a swimwear line called Bambshell, for which she worked with South African swimwear brand.
Marilyn Ramos is a South African designer, model and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss South Africa 2012, becoming the official representative of her country to Miss Universe 2013 and Miss World 2013. Ramos represented South Africa at Miss World 2013 and Miss Universe 2013, failing to place in both competitions. She entered the pageant twice before she emerged the winner. She also held the title for the longest in SA pageant history- 16 months until she has crowned Rolene Strauss on 30 March 2014 as her successor.

Bridget Masinga is a South African actress, television and radio personality, fashion model and philanthropist. Miss South Africa 2017, the 59th edition of the Miss South Africa Pageant was held on Sunday, March 26, 2017, at the Sun City Superbowl. It was simulcast as a live broadcast on M-Net and Mzansi Magic. Twenty six semi-finalists from different provinces were selected from over nine hundred women who entered, but only 12 finalists competed for the crown. Demi Leigh Nel-Peters emerged victorious and was named as Miss SA 2017 at the conclusion of the 2 hour event. Demi-Leigh represented South Africa at Miss Universe 2017 and was crowned as the new Miss Universe. Her 1st princess Adè van Heerden competed at Miss World 2017, finishing in Top 10.
Miss South Africa 2018 was the 60th edition of Miss South Africa. It was held on 27 May 2018 at the Sun Arena at Time Square in Pretoria. It was simulcasted as a live broadcast on M-Net and Mzansi Magic, and was hosted by Bonang Matheba. For the first time, two separate delegates were selected to represent South Africa at Miss World and Miss Universe, but only one was crowned Miss South Africa.
Natasha Joubert is a South African model and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss South Africa 2023. She was previously the second runner-up in Miss South Africa 2020, and later represented South Africa at the Miss Universe 2020 pageant.
Lalela Lali Mswane is a South African model and beauty queen who was crowned Miss Supranational 2022. She was previously crowned Miss South Africa 2021 and in her private capacity, participated at the Miss Universe 2021, placing second runner up. It is important to note that her appearance in Miss Universe was not on behalf of South Africa, as the South African government had denounced Israel due to its ongoing violence against the people of Palestine.
Anele Mdoda is a South African television presenter, radio personality, producer, businesswoman and author. Born and raised in Mthatha, Eastern Cape, Mdoda obtained a degree in Politics and International Relations at the University of Pretoria, her career began at the age of 20 in 2004 as a radio DJ.
Miss South Africa 2023 was the 65th edition of the Miss South Africa pageant, held on Sunday, August 13, 2023, at the SunBet Arena in Pretoria. Ndavi Nokeri of Limpopo crowned Natasha Joubert of Gauteng as her successor at the end of the event.
