The Premier of North West is the head of government of the North West province of South Africa. The current Premier of the North West is Bushy Maape,a member of the African National Congress,who was elected premier in September 2021 after the resignation of Job Mokgoro.
Zwelini Lawrence Mkhize is a South African doctor,legislator and politician who served as the Minister of Health from May 2019 until his resignation on Thursday 5 August 2021. In this role,he was prominent in South Africa's response to the COVID-19 pandemic. He previously served as the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs from 2018 to 2019. He was the 5th Premier of KwaZulu-Natal from 2009 to 2013. Mkhize is a member of the African National Congress and was the party's Treasurer-General between 2012 and 2017.

Supra Obakeng Ramoeletsi Mahumapelo is a South African politician and musician. He served as the Provincial Secretary of the African National Congress North West Provincial Leadership from 2011 until August 2018. He previously served as Speaker of the North West Provincial Legislature and member of the North West Provincial Legislature and Premier of North West. Mahumapelo stepped down in May 2018 after violent protests called for him to step down.
Refilwe Maria Tsipane,known as Refilwe Mtsweni-Tsipane,is a South African politician and a party member of the African National Congress (ANC),who has been serving as the 5th Premier of Mpumalanga since 20 March 2018. She succeeded former Premier David Mabuza after he was appointed Deputy President of South Africa. Mtsweni-Tsipane is also a Member of the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature and previously served as the MEC for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs.
Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane is a South African politician who has been serving as the 7th Premier of the Eastern Cape since May 2019. He became a Member of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature in February 2018. A member of the African National Congress,he has been serving as the Provincial Chairperson of the party since his election in October 2017. From May 2018 to May 2019,he served as the Eastern Cape MEC for Economic Development,Environmental Affairs and Tourism.
The 2021 South African municipal elections were held on 1 November 2021,to elect councils for all district,metropolitan and local municipalities in each of the country's nine provinces. It is the sixth municipal election held in South Africa since the end of apartheid in 1994,held every five years. The previous municipal elections were held in 2016.On 21 April 2021,President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that the elections will be held on Wednesday,27 October 2021. It had been recommend by Dikgang Moseneke to delay the municipal elections until 2022. The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) requested the Constitutional Court to support the date postponement. The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF)) supported the date postponement while the Democratic Alliance (DA) was against the postponement of the date. The Constitutional Court dismissed the application to postpone the date until 2022,ruling that they had to take place between 27 October and 1 November. On 9 September 2021,the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs,Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma announced that the elections would be held on 1 November.
Wendy Joy Nelson is a South African politician from the North West. She was the North West Finance,Economy and Enterprise Development MEC from 2015 to 2018,and the North West Tourism MEC from 2018 to 2019. She was also a Member of the North West Provincial Legislature for the African National Congress (ANC) from 2014 to 2019. She briefly served as the acting Premier of North West in 2018. She was a Member of the National Assembly from 2009 to 2014. Nelson had also been involved in the local politics of the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) held its leadership conference virtually between 31 October and 1 November 2020. It was originally scheduled to be held in May 2020,but was postponed due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The previous congress was held in 2018. In October 2019,then-party leader Mmusi Maimane announced that the party would seek to hold a policy conference and early elective congress in 2020. Maimane and former party chair Athol Trollip have since resigned from their positions. The party elected John Steenhuisen and Ivan Meyer as their interim successors,respectively.
Sindiswa Griselda Gomba is a South African politician who was the Eastern Cape MEC for Health from 2019 to 2021. She became a Member of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature in March 2019. Gomba is a member of the African National Congress (ANC) and previously served as a municipal councillor of the Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality.
Madoda Sambatha is a South African politician serving as the North West MEC for Health since 2018. He has served as a Member of the North West Provincial Legislature for the African National Congress (ANC) since 2014. He was the MEC for Public Works and Roads from 2014 to 2017. Sambatha is also the provincial secretary of the South African Communist Party (SACP).
Babalo Madikizela is a South African urban planner and politician serving as the Eastern Cape MEC for Public Works since May 2019. He has been a Member of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature since November 2018. Madikizela has been the provincial treasurer of the African National Congress (ANC) since October 2017.
Mothibedi Gordon Kegakilwe was a South African politician and a party member of the African National Congress. He served as the North West MEC for Cooperative Governance,Human Settlement and Traditional Affairs from May 2019 until his death in July 2020.
Kenetswe Norah Mosenogi is a South African politician from the North West. A member of the African National Congress,she has been the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Economic Development,Environment,Conservation and Tourism and a Member of the North West Provincial Legislature since May 2019. Mosenogi also served as the deputy secretary-general of the African National Congress Youth League from 2011 until 2013.
Boitumelo Theodora Moiloa is a South African politician from the North West serving as the MEC for Social Development since May 2019. She was sworn in as a Member of the North West Provincial Legislature in August 2013. Moiloa is a member of both the African National Congress and the South African Communist Party.
Mmoloki Saviour Cwaile is a South African politician who served as the North West MEC for Cooperative Governance,Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs from November 2020 to August 2021. A member of the African National Congress,he has been a Member of the North West Provincial Legislature since February 2019. Cwaile had previously served as the chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Premier,Finance,Cooperative Governance,Human Settlement and Traditional Affairs in the legislature.
Nomathemba Emily Mokgethi is a South African politician who has served as the Gauteng Health MEC since 2020 and has been a member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature since 2018. She was the provincial MEC for Social Development between June and December 2020. Mokgethi is a member of the African National Congress.
Kaobitsa Abel Bushy Maape is a South African politician and anti-apartheid activist who has been the 7th Premier of the North West and a member of the North West Provincial Legislature since September 2021. Maape is a member of the African National Congress and a former Robben Island prisoner.
Galebekwe Virginia Tsotso Tlhapi is a South African politician currently serving as the MEC for Arts,Culture,Sports and Recreation in the North West. She is a member of the North West Provincial Legislature for the African National Congress.
Motlalepula Ziphora Rosho is a South African politician. A member of the African National Congress,she was elected deputy speaker of the North West Provincial Legislature in 2010. In 2012 she was appointed as the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Economic Development,Environment,Conservation and Tourism in the North West Provincial Government. Rosho was discharged from the executive council in 2014 and then served in the provincial legislature as a committee chairperson until December 2018,when she returned to the executive as MEC for Local Government and Human Settlement. Rosho was appointed as MEC for Finance after the 2019 elections.
