Joseph "Joe" Frasson (September 3, 1935 –November 21, 2016) was a NASCAR Winston Cup Series driver. [1] Born in Golden Valley, Minnesota, USA, his Winston Cup Series career spanned from 1969 to 1978, with four top-5 and nineteen top-10 finishes. He had an abortive attempt at participating in the Budweiser Late Model Sportsman Series in 1982.
Frasson's anger management issues caused him to frequently lose his temper when he failed to qualify in NASCAR Cup Series races. His fierce and independent attitude during his NASCAR career would preclude the need for corporate sponsors and being a part of a multi-vehicle organization. Having a rather gruff appearance, he was not apologetic to NASCAR media present at the race, and he showed an element of rudeness that people in the Southern United States stereotypically pictured people from the Northern United States as being.[ citation needed ]
Frasson completed 30,378.3 miles or 48,889.1 kilometres of racing with overall career earnings of $148,930 ($668,209.4 when adjusted for inflation). [1] Frasson was a runner-up for the 1970 NASCAR Rookie of the Year award to Bill Dennis). [1] In addition to this, he was also a competitor at the 1971 Daytona 500. [1] During his NASCAR career, Frasson had his best results on the short tracks, with an average finish of 19th place while on road courses he averaged 33rd place finishes. [2]
The racing eventually took a heavy burden on his finances because of his absolute devotion to being a "pure short track racer." Frasson was friends with Marion Cox and once drove his vehicle to race; where he would move up the pack to an impressive finish. Being a critic of today's NASCAR, he refers to the current racing style as 'Oh, don't you bump that car in front of you. We'll fine you and bar you!', preferring the days when drivers appreciated the glass of wine at the post-race ceremonies instead of their multimillion-dollar paychecks. [3] Frasson was believed to hire temporary crew members for the early part of the 1973 NASCAR Winston Cup Series season; particularly at the 1973 World 600.
His primary vehicle throughout his career was his #18 Buick; which was owned, operated, and sponsored by himself. [4] Frasson has driven Chevrolet and Dodge vehicles as his secondary racing vehicles and has appeared 14 times at Talladega Superspeedway. [5]

Darrell Lee Waltrip is an American motorsports analyst, author as well as a former national television broadcaster and stock car driver. He raced from 1972 to 2000 in the NASCAR Cup Series, most notably driving the No. 11 Chevrolet for Junior Johnson. Waltrip is a three-time Cup Series champion.

Talladega Superspeedway, nicknamed "Dega", and formerly named Alabama International Motor Speedway (AIMS) from 1969 to 1989, is a motorsports complex located in Lincoln, Alabama, north of Talladega, Alabama. It is located on the former Anniston Air Force Base. A tri-oval, the track was constructed in 1969 by the International Speedway Corporation, a business controlled by the France Family. As of 2023, the track hosts the NASCAR Cup Series, NASCAR Xfinity Series, NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, and ARCA Menards Series. Talladega is the longest NASCAR oval, with a length of 2.660 mi (4.281 km), compared to the Daytona International Speedway, which is 2.500 mi (4.023 km) long. The total peak capacity of Talladega is around 175,000 spectators, with the main grandstand capacity being about 80,000. As of 2023, Talladega is one of NASCAR's three drafting tracks, alongside Daytona International Speedway and Atlanta Motor Speedway.
William Clyde Elliott Sr., also known as "Awesome Bill from Dawsonville", "Million Dollar Bill", or "Wild Bill" is an American former professional stock car racing driver. He competes full time in the Camping World Superstar Racing Experience. His accolades include the 1988 Winston Cup Championship and garnering 44 wins in that series, including two Daytona 500 victories in 1985 and 1987, three Southern 500 victories in 1985, 1988, and 1994, one Winston 500 victory in 1985, one Brickyard 400 victory in 2002, one "The Winston All-Star Race" win in 1986, and a record four consecutive wins at Michigan International Speedway between 1985 and 1986.
Jeffery Purvis is a former race car driver in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. He is a 15-year veteran with four wins and 25 top-five finishes. He suffered a massive brain injury after a 2002 crash and has not run a NASCAR-sanctioned race since 2004. Before coming to NASCAR he was an accomplished dirt track racer winning the World 100 at Eldora Speedway on three occasions-1983,1984,and 1986.
The YellaWood 500 is a NASCAR Cup Series stock car race held at Talladega Superspeedway in Lincoln, Alabama, hosting an event in the NASCAR playoffs. The race is one of four NASCAR Cup Series races currently run with tapered spacers, the others being the GEICO 500 in May, the Coke Zero Sugar 400, and the Daytona 500. Through 1996, this race was normally held in early August or late July. In 1997, it was moved to early October due to the uncomfortably hot summer temperatures, and sometimes unpredictable summertime thunderstorms in the Alabama area. In 2009, the race moved again, this time to November 1 as part of a realignment agreement with Atlanta and Fontana.
