Joe Statler (born December 8,1952) is an American politician,currently serving as a Republican member of the West Virginia House of Delegates since 2020,representing the 51st district,which includes Morgantown and the majority of Monongalia County. [1] Statler also served in the House from 2014 to 2018,losing reelection in the 2018 elections.
As of 2021,Statler is the only Republican in the five-member 51st District.
Statler was born on December 8,1952,in Morgantown,West Virginia to Willis and Maxine Statler. He is a graduate of Clay-Battelle High School. Statler is a retired coal miner and owns a 250 acre farm in Core,West Virginia. [1] Prior to his service in the Legislature,Statler served on the Monongalia County Board of Education from 2002 to 2012. [1]

Monongalia County,known locally as Mon County,is a county located in the U.S. state of West Virginia. As of the 2020 census,the population was 105,822,making it West Virginia's third-most populous county. Its county seat is Morgantown. The county was founded in 1776. Monongalia County is included in the Morgantown,WV Metropolitan Statistical Area,and is the largest county in North-Central West Virginia. It is part of the Pittsburgh media market.
University High School is a senior high school in unincorporated Monongalia County,West Virginia,near Morgantown. A part of Monongalia County Schools,it houses just over 1,250 students. It is a part of the Monongalia County Schools. Students largely come from the 2 feeder schools,Mountaineer Middle School,and Westwood Middle School.

Due to redistricting,this was the first House of Delegates election in which all members were elected from single member districts,with West Virginia following a trend of states phasing out multi-member districts in recent decades.
