Ric Griffith is a Democratic member of the West Virginia House of Delegates for the 19th District,which encompasses part of Wayne County. He assumed office on December 1,2020. His current term ends on November 30,2022. [2]
Griffith graduated from Ceredo-Kenova High School and received a degree from the University of Toledo College of Pharmacy. [3]
Griffith served two terms as Kenova City Council President and two terms as Mayor of Kenova. [4]
Griffith is well known for displaying several thousand jack-o'-lanterns on his property each Halloween. [5] Carving all the pumpkins is a community event,with around 20 dedicated volunteers helping. The pumpkin display is part of Ceredo-Kenova AutumnFest,a community-wide event which has a parade,scavenger hunt,and haunted trail. In 2019,he displayed over 3,000,one for every resident of his home town of Kenova,West Virginia. [6]
During the COVID-19 pandemic,Griffith decided it was too risky to do the display at his home due to the large crowds that congregate to view it. He opted instead to have members of the community come by and pick up a pumpkin so it can be carved and displayed at their own homes. He created printed out instructions to go with each pumpkin to help the children and their families carve them. [7] [8]

A jack-o'-lantern is a carved lantern,most commonly made from a pumpkin or a root vegetable such as a rutabaga or turnip. Jack-o'-lanterns are associated with the Halloween holiday. Its name comes from the reported phenomenon of strange lights flickering over peat bogs,called will-o'-the-wisps or jack-o'-lanterns. The name is also tied to the Irish legend of Stingy Jack,a drunkard who bargains with Satan and is doomed to roam the Earth with only a hollowed turnip to light his way.
The Virginia House of Delegates is one of the two parts of the Virginia General Assembly,the other being the Senate of Virginia. It has 100 members elected for terms of two years;unlike most states,these elections take place during odd-numbered years. Eli Thayer was a member of the United States House of Representatives from 1857 to 1861. He was born in Mendon,Massachusetts. He graduated from Worcester Academy in 1840,from Brown University in 1845,and in 1848 founded Oread Institute,a school for young women in Worcester,Massachusetts. He is buried at Hope Cemetery,Worcester.
Southern Airways Flight 932 was a chartered Southern Airways Douglas DC-9 domestic United States commercial jet flight from Stallings Field (ISO) in Kinston,North Carolina,to Huntington Tri-State Airport/Milton J. Ferguson Field (HTS) near Kenova and Ceredo,West Virginia. At 7:36 pm on November 14,1970,the aircraft crashed into a hill just short of the Tri-State Airport,killing all 75 people on board in what has been recognized as "the worst sports-related air tragedy in U.S. history".
Howard Morgan Griffith is an American lawyer and politician who has been the U.S. representative for Virginia's 9th congressional district since 2011. Mitch Stadium is a baseball field located on the boundary line between the Town of Ceredo and the City of Kenova in West Virginia. It is home to the Ceredo-Kenova Little League and numerous annual community events. The stadium was created in 1955 and is named in honor of Elmer "Big Mitch" Mitchell,who served as groundskeeper at the facility for 27 years until his death in 1981. The facility at Mitch Stadium has previously hosted concerts,youth football and soccer events,and community carnivals and festivals. "The Mitch" has hosted 7 West Virginia Little League State Tournaments,the 1965 Little League Divisional Tournament,the 2009 Little League 2009 Little League Southeast Regional Baseball and Softball Tournaments,and served as the initial host of the Little League 9-10 Year-Old Tournament of State Champions.
Thomas Edward Dandelet was an American football and basketball coach. He served as the head football coach at college football coach at the First District Agricultural School—now known as Arkansas State University—from 1922 to 1923 and at Marshall College—now known as Marshall University—from 1931 to 1934,compiling a career college football record of 18–29–3. Dandelet was also the head basketball coach at Marshall from 1931 to 1935,tallying a mark of 43–35.

This coincided with the election of 17 of West Virginia's 34 state senators,and the election of West Virginia's two U.S. representatives. Primary elections were held on May 10,2022. Due to redistricting,this was the first House of Delegates election in which all members are elected from single member districts,with West Virginia following a trend of states phasing out multi-member districts in recent decades.
