Joel Soh (born 16 August 1987) is a Malaysian film producer and director. He has become the managing director of his own company, Blackflag Malaysia and the only producer for Polis Evo franchise since its first in 2015. [1] The films he produced have a combined box office over RM95 million, making him become one of the highest grossing producers in Malaysia, with Polis Evo 3 collecting RM54 million. [2]

Early life

Joel was born in Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu and raised in Puchong, Selangor. He moved to Selangor in 2005, age 18 to continue pursuing his filmmaking dream in ASWARA. He later moved to Taylor's University to studied Cambridge A-Level there. After received scholarship from Astro, [3] he moved to Boston, Massachusetts for pursue Bachelor's Degree in film and video production at Emerson College for three years. [4]

After returning from alma mater, he joined Astro Shaw and Tayangan Unggul as associate producer and production executive as part of the deal from the scholarship program. [5]

Polis EVO is a 2015 Malay-language buddy cop action comedy film directed by Ghaz Abu Bakar and written by Joel Soh, Kyle Goonting, Anwari Ashraf and Adib Zaini. The film casts includes Shaheizy Sam, Zizan Razak, Nora Danish, Mimi Ernida, Harun Salim Bachik, Wan Hanafi Su, Hushairy Hussein, Pablo Amirul, Azliyuszaini Mohd Noor and Amerul Affendi. The film tells the story of two police officers, Inspector Khai and Inspector Sani who have very different personalities but are forced to work together to bring down a drug trafficking operation. The film was released theatrically on September 17, 2015 nationwide.

Polis Evo 2 is a 2018 Malaysian Malay-language buddy cop action film directed by Joel Soh and Andre Chiew, starring Zizan Razak and Shaheizy Sam reprise their respective roles, with Indonesian actress Raline Shah joined them as the main cast. It revolves Malaysian and Indonesian police to crippled a group of terrorists attacking a hostile village and detaining residents as the hostages. The film was released on 22 November 2018 and is a sequel to the 2015 film of the same title. In December 2018, Polis Evo 2 was listed by the local Malaysian newspaper Harian Metro as among the top 10 local films in Malaysian history. A third sequel of the film was released in May 2023 with Syafiq Yusof took the role as the director.

Anwari Ashraf bin Hashim is Malaysian screenwriter, film producer and film director. He is currently become Head of Development in Astro Shaw who also created Writers' Room program. He's also one of the key person behind Polis Evo franchise alongside Joel Soh and Kyle Goonting.
