The Division of Kalgoorlie was an Australian electoral division in the state of Western Australia,named after the city of Kalgoorlie. The Division was proclaimed in 1900 as one of the original 65 divisions to be contested at the first federal election in 1901. In its final form,it covered most of the land area of Western Australia,with a size of 2,295,354 square kilometres (886,241 sq mi)—over 90 percent of the state's landmass. It included the Goldfields-Esperance,Gascoyne,Pilbara and Kimberley regions of Western Australia,in addition to the eastern and far northern parts of the Mid West region,and the town of Merredin. It was the largest single-member electorate by area in the world—almost a third of the continent.
The Eastern Goldfields Railway was built in the 1890s by the Western Australian Government Railways to connect Perth with the Eastern Goldfields at Coolgardie and Kalgoorlie.

Philip Collier was an Australian politician who served as the 14th Premier of Western Australia from 1924 to 1930 and from 1933 to 1936. He was leader of the Labor Party from 1917 to 1936,and is Western Australia's longest-serving premier from that party.

Born to Italian immigrants,D'Orazio grew up on a market garden in the Perth suburb of Bayswater. He studied pharmacy at the Western Australian Institute of Technology,later opening his own pharmacy business. In 1981,he was elected to the Bayswater council,and in 1984,he became the mayor of Bayswater,in which position he served until 2001.
The Carpenter Ministry was the 34th Ministry of the Government of Western Australia,and was led by Labor Premier Alan Carpenter and his deputy Eric Ripper. It succeeded the Gallop Ministry on 3 February 2006 due to the retirement of Dr Geoff Gallop from politics on 25 January,and was in turn succeeded by the Barnett Ministry on 23 September 2008 after the Labor Party lost government at the state election held on 6 September.
The Gallop Ministry was the 33rd Ministry of the Government of Western Australia,and was led by Labor Premier Geoff Gallop and his deputy,Eric Ripper. It succeeded the Court–Cowan Ministry on 16 February 2001,following the defeat of the Liberal-National coalition government at the 2001 election six days earlier. The Ministry was reconstituted on 10 March 2005 following the February 2005 election. It was succeeded by the Carpenter Ministry on 3 February 2006 due to the retirement of Dr Geoff Gallop from politics on 25 January.
Robert Hastie was an Australian politician who was the first parliamentary leader of the Labour Party in Western Australia. He was a member of the state's Legislative Assembly from 1901 to 1905.
Emil Nulsen was an Australian politician who was a Labor Party member of the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia from 1932 to 1962. He served as a minister in the governments of John Willcock,Frank Wise,and Albert Hawke.
Thomas Daniel Evans was an Australian politician who was a Labor Party member of the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia from 1956 to 1980,representing the seat of Kalgoorlie. He served as a minister in the government of John Tonkin,including as treasurer and attorney-general.
