Johnson County Transit is a public transit operator in Johnson County, Kansas. It is the operator of 11 local bus routes in Douglas, Johnson, and Wyandotte Counties in Kansas and Jackson County in Missouri.
Johnson County Transit started operations in 1982 as Commuteride and began operating as The JO in 1986. The JO took over service from the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority, which provided service in Johnson County until 1981.
In November of 2014, The JO was re-branded into "RideKC" – a branding effort designed to unify all Kansas City metro area transit providers under a single fare and route structure. [4]
In 2023, the system had a ridership of 415,800, or about 1,800 per weekday as of the third quarter of 2024.
Johnson County Transit is now using route numbers integrated with those used by the KC Metro bus system. [5] The new numeric designations, mostly formed by placing a 3-digit number before the letter designation, are shown.

In addition to The JO, Johnson County Transit also operates three other services; Local Links, The JO-Special Edition, & SWIFT.
Local Links are either deviated-fixed routes or demand-response routes, with designated, geographic service areas. Many of the Local Links are a partnership between Johnson County Transit, the city or cities being served. The Local Links routes are:
The JO-Special Edition, a shared ride program administered by Johnson County Transit, provides affordable curb-to-curb transportation for residents of Johnson County who are sixty (60) years of age or older, or have a documented disability or are within established low-income guidelines.
Eligible riders may use The JO-Special Edition for any trip purpose within the Johnson County service area. Children ages 13 to 18 with a documented disability may ride for medical appointments only. The JO – Special Edition travels into specified areas of Kansas City, Kansas and Kansas City, Missouri for medical trips only.
Special Edition operates curb-to-curb service Monday-Friday and is provided on a first come, first served basis. Fares are based upon distance traveled and multiple ride passes are available.
SWIFT (Sheltered Workshop Industrial Fixed Transit) provides Monday-Friday, curb-to-curb transportation for developmentally disabled individuals working at the Johnson County Developmental Supports facility in Lenexa, Kansas.
Spokane Transit Authority, more commonly Spokane Transit or STA, is the public transport authority of central Spokane County, Washington, United States, serving Spokane, Washington, and its surrounding urban areas. The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) provides public transportation, primarily buses, in the U.S. state of Rhode Island. The main hub of the RIPTA system is Kennedy Plaza, a large bus terminal in downtown Providence, Rhode Island. Average daily ridership as of the third quarter of 2024 is 41,900. The agency operates 59 fixed-route bus routes and 7 demand-responsive routes, together serving 37 out of 39 Rhode Island municipalities.
The Delaware Transit Corporation, operating as DART First State, is the only public transportation system that operates throughout the U.S. state of Delaware. DART First State provides local and inter-county bus service throughout the state and also funds commuter rail service along SEPTA Regional Rail's Wilmington/Newark Line serving the northern part of the state. The Denton County Transportation Authority (DCTA) is the transit authority that operates in Denton County, Texas. It operates transit service in three cities within Denton County, as well as the A-train, a regional commuter rail line to Carrollton. Chapel Hill Transit operates public bus and van transportation services within the contiguous municipalities of Chapel Hill and Carrboro and the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the southeast corner of Orange County in the Research Triangle metropolitan region of North Carolina. Chapel Hill Transit operates its fixed route system fare free due to a contractual agreement with the two towns and the university to share annual operating and capital costs. CamTran, originally called the Cambria County Transit Authority operates mass transit bus service within Johnstown, Pennsylvania, Cambria County, and Windber, Pennsylvania, Somerset County, Pennsylvania. CamTran also operates the Johnstown Inclined Plane, which they took over in 1983 from Westmont, Pennsylvania borough. The transit system began operation in 1976, from the remnants of the Johnstown Traction Company. While the Cambria County Transit Authority (CCTA) began operation on July 20, 1976, service did not begin until December 1, 1976. In June 1999, CCTA became CamTran. In 2023, the system had a ridership of 752,700, or about 2,300 per weekday as of the third quarter of 2024.
VINE Transit is a public transportation service in Napa County, California, United States; it is managed under the Napa Valley Transportation Authority and operated by Transdev. The system offers extensive service throughout the county along with providing connections to other public transportation systems in adjacent counties. Mountain Metropolitan Transit (MMT) is the primary public transportation operator for the Colorado Springs metropolitan area. It provides bus service between Colorado Springs, Manitou Springs, and Security-Widefield. There are currently thirty-four local routes. In 2023, the system had a ridership of 2,991,300, or about 12,100 per weekday as of the third quarter of 2024.
The KC Streetcar is a one-route streetcar system in Downtown Kansas City, Missouri. Construction began in May 2014, and service began on May 6, 2016. The KC Streetcar is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area's integrated public transit brand RideKC, and is operated by the Kansas City Streetcar Authority. It is free to ride, as it is funded by a transportation development district. As of June 2024, the KC Streetcar has had over 14 million rides since its opening in 2016. The initial line is 2.2 miles (3.5 km) long, and construction began in 2022 for extensions north to the riverfront and south to the University of Missouri-Kansas City. In the RideKC system, the KC Streetcar is internally designated as route 601.
The North Central Regional Transit District operates a network of several local and intercity bus routes in northern New Mexico, serving Santa Fe, Española, Taos, and many smaller communities along a network of 25 fixed routes and one demand-response route, one dial-a-ride and complementary Paratransit service in the Taos area. Routes operate Monday through Friday only, with the exceptions of the "Taos Express," which operates only on weekends, the Mountain Trail route to the Santa Fe National Forest and Ski Santa Fe, which operates daily, and seasonal daily service from the Town of Taos to Taos Ski Valley.
