The politics of Malta takes place within a framework of a parliamentary representative democratic republic,whereby the president of Malta is the constitutional head of state. Executive authority is vested in the president of Malta,with the general direction and control of the Government of Malta remaining with the prime minister of Malta,who is the head of government and the cabinet. Legislative power is vested in the Parliament of Malta,which consists of the president of Malta and the unicameral House of Representatives of Malta with the speaker as the presiding officer of the legislative body. Judicial power remains with the chief justice and the judiciary of Malta. Since independence,the party electoral system has been dominated by the Christian democratic Nationalist Party and the social democratic Labour Party.
The Labour Party,formerly known as the Malta Labour Party,is one of the two major political parties in Malta,along with the Nationalist Party. It sits on the centre-left of the political spectrum.
Alfred Sant,is a Maltese politician and a novelist. He led the Labour Party from 1992 to 2008 and served as Prime Minister of Malta between 1996 and 1998 and as Leader of the Opposition from 1992 to 1996 and from 1998 to 2008. Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza is Maltese song competition held on a day near September 21. All songs are performed in the Maltese language and is one of the most anticipated events on the Maltese musical calendar. The event first took place back in 1983 in a span of four years until 1987 before returning just 10 years later in 1997 going on to take place each and every year since then. Several local stars like to submit their entries into such a prestigious musical event due to the fact that the songs are written in Maltese. Labour Youths,formerly known as the Labour Youth Forum until 2021,the Young Socialist League until 1992 and the Labour League of Youth until 1974,is the youth organisation of the Labour Party of Malta. ŻL is also active internationally and is an active member within the International Union of Socialist Youth and the Young European Socialists.

Cyrus Engerer is a Maltese Member of European Parliament representing the Labour Party. A gay rights activist,he was the leading spokesperson for the Yes campaign at the 2011 Maltese divorce referendum. In 2021 he was tasked with negotiating the European Parliaments historic resolution on the declaration of the European Union as an LGBTQ Freedom zone,in reaction to the establishment of so called "LGBT-Free zones" in Poland. Engerer later went on to write the European Parliaments resolution which condemned the laws in Hungary which effectively banned "LGBT propaganda" in the vicinity of schools. From 2014 till 2019 Engerer was the Prime Minister's special envoy to the European Union. He was elected as a Member of the European Parliament in November 2020. After he joined the Labour Party the Police of Malta opened an investigation against him,leading to his father's arrest,the opening of a court case against him on spreading pornography and the arrest of his mother on election day. He himself was convicted for spreading revenge porn and received a suspended two years term imprisonment. He is the partner of Partit Laburista's Member of Parliament Randolph De Battista.
Christopher Fearne is a Maltese physician and politician. He was appointed Parliamentary Secretary for Health in April 2014 and Minister for Health since April 2016. In July 2017,the Labour Party elected him as Deputy Leader for Parliamentary Affairs,thus assuming the role of Deputy Prime Minister of Malta and Leader of the House.
Silvio Parnis was a Maltese politician of the Labour Party. Parnis served in the Parliament of Malta from 1998 to 2022.
Conrad Borg Manché is a Maltese politician,serving as the mayor of Gżira,Malta,on behalf of the Labour Party. He was brought up in Gzira. As a political activist,he gained fame in Malta for re-opening access to the coast of Manoel Island for the public in September,2016,after it was closed for over 15 years due to the developments by MIDI.
Pietru Pawl Saydon,was a Roman Catholic priest and scholar of the Maltese language,other semitic languages and the Bible. He was President of the Maltese Language Society (Ghaqda tal-Malti) at the University of Malta. He is most noteworthy for his contributions to the Maltese language,and the translation of the Bible from the original Hebrew to Maltese.
Randolph De Battista is a Maltese progressive politician and currently serves as a member of the Parliament of Malta and the Chief Executive Officer of the Labour Party. He joined the Parliamentary Group following the 2022 General Elections in Malta and represents the 9th Electoral District,having been chosen by Prime Minister Robert Abela to form part of his team. He is the partner of Member of the European Parliament Cyrus Engerer.
Local council elections are to be held in Malta and Gozo on the 8 June 2024,in tandem with the European Parliament elections. This shall be the second time that all local councils of Malta are elected simultaneously in a single election,following the 2015 reform abolishing the old system of half-council elections.
