Joseph de Toro was mayor of Ponce,Puerto Rico,starting in 1710. [1]
De Toro was capitán de granaderos (herdsmen captain),a governmental position,during the 1812 mayoral administration of Jose Ortiz de la Renta. [2]
Eduardo Neumann Gandia states that Joseph de Toro was mayor of Ponce starting in 1710. It is not known with certainty,however,when De Toro ended his mayoral term. However,it is likely he was still the mayor of Ponce three years later when Puerto Rico governor Francisco Danío Granados ordered,in 1713,that together with those of Coamo,Guaynabo,Caguas,Loiza and Santurce,the hato and estancia owners in the Ponce were to contribute a tax for the reconstruction of the San Antonio bridge in San Juan. Máximo de Meana y Guridi was a Spanish soldier and Mayor of Ponce, Puerto Rico, from 28 September 1882 until 31 May 1884. Meana y Guridi was interim mayor of Ponce from 28 September 1882 until 2 February 1883, and then mayor from 2 February 1883 until 31 May 1884. As a Spanish Army soldier, Maximo de Meana y Guridi held the rank of Lt. Colonel.
Eduardo Neumann Gandía, was one of Puerto Rico's most accomplished historians. He is particularly well known for his nineteenth century book Verdadera y Auténtica Historia de la Ciudad de Ponce: desde sus primitivos tiempos hasta la época contemporánea. His father was Guillermo Neumann, who was mayor of Ponce from 23 April 1851 to 30 September 1851. Eduardo Neumann Gandía's most important work was Benefactores y Hombres Notables de Puerto Rico.. Neumann wrote profusely during a period of 30 years, producing some 20 major works plus numerous articles in newspapers and periodicals.
José Ortiz de la Renta was Mayor of Ponce, Puerto Rico, from 1812 to 1814, 1815 to 1816, 1820 to 1821, 1823 to 1826, 1837 to 1838, 1842 to 1843, 1843 to 1844, and in 1846. He has the distinction of having held the office of mayor of Ponce the most — eight times. He was an hacendado.
