Josephine Touray (born 6 October 1979) is a former Danish team handball player and Olympic champion of Gambian descent. She played mainly as a right wing. Over the course of her career she played 123 games for the Danish national team, where she scored 383 goals. She played for the clubs: Bjerringbro KFUM, Viborg HK, KIF Kolding, Ikast-Bording EH, FCK Håndbold, Frederiksberg IF and SK Aarhus, all in Denmark. She received a gold medal with the Danish national team at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. [1]
Touray started her playing career at Bjerringbro before joining the Danish top club Viborg HK. Here she won the Danish league and the EHF-Cup in 1999. [2]
In 2004 with Ikast-Bording EH she won the EHF Cup Winners' Cup. [2]
In 2005 she joined FC København Håndbold to better balance the handball career with her law-studies. [2] In April 2008 she decided to cancel her contract with FC København Håndbold, due to concerns over playing time. At the time of the transfer, she had not taken the field since october 2007. She joined league rivals SK Århus.
She decided to retire in 2009 after struggling with injuries for a long period. [3] In 2010 she did however come out of retirement to join Copenhagen based Frederiksberg IF, where she played as a part time handballer. [4]
Simultaniously with her playing career, Touray studied Law. After she retired she has been involved in various charity organisation. First in FANT – Football for a new tomorrow, an organisation supporting sports in developing countries [5] and Hej-Fonden, an organisation against bullying, which has involved numerous former and current Danish handball players, including Mikkel Hansen and Mie Højlund. Ceres Arena is an indoor arena mainly used for handball matches and public events in Aarhus, Denmark. The arena was opened in 2001 and has a capacity of 5,001 spectators. It is part of the Aarhus Sports Park, which also includes Aarhus Stadium.
Viborg HK is a Danish professional handball club from Viborg. The club has many teams for both women and men, but especially the professional women's team is one of the most successful in Danish and European handball since the beginning of the 1990s. This team currently competes in the women's Danish Women's Handball League.
Valérie Nicolas is a French handball goalkeeper and former player of the French national team. She became World Champion in 2003 with the French team, and was also voted Most Valuable Player and Best Goalkeeper. She was voted into the All-Star Team in the 2007 World Championship. Among her other triumphs are a silver medal from the World Championships, two bronze medals from the European Championships, victories at the Champions League, the EHF Cup, the Cup Winners' Cup, and both French and Danish national championships.
Kasper Hvidt is a Danish retired handball goalkeeper, who last played for KIF Kolding and previous Danish national team. He was selected as the best keeper for the 2008 European Men's Handball Championship, where he also won Gold medals with the Danish national team. From 2004 to 2010 he was the captain of the Danish national team.
