Journal of Current Southeast Asian Affairs ( ISSN 0722-8821) is a German academic journal. The internationally refereed journal focuses on political, economic and social developments in Brunei, East Timor, Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
The Journal of Current Southeast Asian Affairs, first published in 1982 as Südostasien aktuell is edited by the GIGA Institute of Asian Studies (GIGA Institut für Asien-Studien). The journal, published three times a year, is part of the GIGA Journal Family of the German Institute for Global and Area Studies in Hamburg. The journal's editorial board is led by Marco Bünte, Andreas Ufen, and David Camroux. [1]
The GIGA Journal Family is funded by the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG) as a pilot project in open-access publishing. Since the beginning of 2009 the Journal of Current Southeast Asian Affairs and the other socio-scientific journals of the German Institute for Global and Area Studies have been transformed into open-access journals. The institute also continues to publish print versions of all journals.
The Journal of Current Southeast Asian Affairs provides in-depth analyses of current issues in political, social and economic life; culture; and development in Southeast Asia, as well as information on the regional organization ASEAN and its relations with the great powers of the region. In addition, special background analyses examine important events in accordance with their respective contexts. The Journal of Current Southeast Asian Affairs reaches a broad readership in academic, administration and business circles, but it is also intended for practitioners and general readers interested in Southeast Asia. The journal is included in the collections of various public and university libraries in Germany as well as overseas. The Laotian Chinese are Laotian citizens of Han Chinese ancestry. They constitute one of the many Overseas Chinese residing in Southeast Asia. At present, they constitute an estimated 1 to 2 percent of the Laotian population. The Laotian Chinese community have a disproportionately large presence in the Laotian business sector and dominate the Laotian economy today.
The German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA) is a German research institute. It analyses political, economic and social developments in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East, and combines this analysis with comparative research on international relations, development and globalisation, violence and security, and political systems. The GIGA advises the Federal Foreign Office and other branches of the federal government. The institute is based in Hamburg and has an office in Berlin.

Africa Spectrum is an interdisciplinary peer-reviewed academic journal concentrating on current development issues in Africa south of the Sahara. It is the only German academic journal exclusively devoted to Africa and is Platinum Open Access. Africa Spectrum is published three times a year by the GIGA Institute of African Affairs and was founded in 1966. The journal is part of the GIGA Journal Family of the GIGA-Institute of African Affairs (Deutsches Institut für Afrika-Forschung/Institute of African Studies within the German Institute for Global and Area Studies at. Issues starting from the year 1966 are available at JSTOR, with a three-year moving wall.
The Internet Library Sub-saharan Africa (ilissAfrica) is a German Internet portal that offers an integrated access to relevant scientific information resources in the field of African Studies and the region Africa South of the Sahara. ilissAfrica covers social sciences, history, philology, ethnology and cultural studies. The website is presented in German, English and French.
CIFE - the Centre international de formation européenne is a not-for-profit European institution of higher education and research established in 1954. CIFE encompasses educational and research activities promoting European integration and governance, multilingualism and student mobility. CIFE educates European and international students as future Policy Officers in European institutions and international organisations, a professional title which is recognised by the French state.
GIGA Journal Family is a publishing initiative of the German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA) that brings together four international area studies journals. Paul Johannes Kevenhörster is Professor Emeritus of Political Science at the Westphalian William's University of Muenster in Germany. His work focuses on politics in Japan, municipal government and international development co-operation. He has served in academia as well as in a government agency and as consultant to a variety of organisations. Since 1966 Paul Kevenhörster is married to Gisela Drerup. They have three daughters, Uta, Eva and Ina, three granddaughters and a grandson, Milla and Emma Kevenhörster, Sophie and Lucas Russell.

Schmidt he co-authored China's Foreign Political and Economic Relations: An Unconventional Global Power. He is the author of the book Red Swan: How Unorthodox Policy-Making Facilitated China's Rise. Heilmann is a professor for the political economy of China at the University of Trier.
Harald Bernard Malmgren is a scholar, ambassador, and international negotiator who has been senior aide to US Presidents John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, Richard Nixon, and Gerald Ford, and to US Senators Abraham A. Ribicoff and Russell B. Long, United States Senate Committee on Finance. He has acted as an advisor to many foreign leaders and CEOs of financial institutions and corporate businesses and has been a frequent author of articles and papers on global economic, political, and security affairs.
