The Supreme Court of Canada is the highest court in the judicial system of Canada. It comprises nine justices, whose decisions are the ultimate application of Canadian law, and grants permission to between 40 and 75 litigants each year to appeal decisions rendered by provincial, territorial and federal appellate courts. The Supreme Court is bijural, hearing cases from two major legal traditions and bilingual, hearing cases in both official languages of Canada.
The chief justice of Canada is the presiding judge of the nine-member Supreme Court of Canada, the highest judicial body in Canada. Annie Lola Price (1903–1972) was an Alabama, United States, lawyer, who was one of the first women to become licensed in the state. She was the first woman to serve as a legal advisor for a governor in Alabama and the first woman to serve on the state's appellate court. Between 1962 and 1972, she was the presiding judge of the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals. Price was inducted into the Alabama Women's Hall of Fame in 1976 and into the Alabama Lawyers' Hall of Fame in 2004.
