The show stars Julie Andrews (best known as the star of The Sound of Music and Mary Poppins ), who is joined by her assistant Gus (Giullian Yao Gioiello) [5] [6] and "The Greenies", a cast of original puppets built by The Jim Henson Company. [7]

The episodes include elements of the performing arts, such as an original song. [1] Each episode features a guest star who engages the puppets in a specific area of the performing arts. Guest stars include Alec Baldwin, Sara Bareilles, Joshua Bell, Tituss Burgess, Carol Burnett, Chris Colfer, Robert Fairchild, Josh Groban, Bill Irwin, Ellie Kemper, Idina Menzel, Tiler Peck, David Hyde Pierce, Stomp, Mary Scheer, Rachel Tucker and the Story Pirates. It was aired live twice daily as a local series in Washington, D.C., on WRC-TV in black and white, and later color, on weeknights from May 9, 1955, to December 15, 1961. However, most of the original episodes were never recorded, and are considered lost. A few surviving episodes can be viewed at the Paley Center for Media but many can also be found on video websites like YouTube, such as those digitally archived by The Jim Henson Company. Some have been documented by either the Henson Archives or newspaper articles published while the show was still on air.

The show's concept is based on a training method used by puppeteers, in which they use their hands and a pair of glass eyes instead of a full puppet. For its second and third seasons, it became a long-form series, with episodes lasting 13 minutes each. John Kennedy is an American puppeteer who has worked with The Jim Henson Company since 1990. He hails from Plainfield, Indiana. From 1991 until 2003, Kennedy took over Jim Henson's role of Dr. Teeth, after which Bill Barretta took over in 2005. Kennedy has also performed Kermit the Frog on Disney Cruise Line, replacing Steve Whitmire.

Alice Dinnean is an American puppeteer, voice actress and creative writer who works at The Jim Henson Company. Dinnean has performed on many children's television shows such as The Puzzle Place, Sesame Street, Big Bag, Bear in the Big Blue House, Cousin Skeeter, Jim Henson's Pajanimals, Sid the Science Kid and Jack's Big Music Show. She also did work on various non-Muppet productions such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel.

The Curious Creations of Christine McConnell is an American streaming television sitcom created by and starring Christine McConnell. It premiered on Netflix on October 12, 2018. The show consists of six episodes and was produced by Netflix, Wilshire Studios and Henson Alternative, an arm of The Jim Henson Company. The series was not renewed for a second season.

<i>Donkey Hodie</i> (TV series) American preschool television series

Donkey Hodie is an American puppet live action musical preschool television series created by David and Adam Rudman for PBS Kids, and is aimed at preschoolers ages 3 to 5. Inspired by characters created by Fred Rogers, the series premiered May 3, 2021 and is the second spinoff of Rogers' television series Mister Rogers' Neighborhood after Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood. The first full episode was initially set to premiere in winter 2021 on PBS Kids in the United States, but it was pushed back to May 3 of the same year. Sometimes, television airings are followed up by a series of shorts; "Through the Woods", "What Can You Become?", and "Elinor Wonders Why: That's So Interesting!".
