Julien Maury (born 1978 in Paris) and Alexandre Bustillo (born 1975 in Saint-Cloud, France) are French filmmakers [1] who work together on their projects. They list their influences as Dario Argento, Roman Polanski, Clive Barker and John Carpenter. [2] [3]
Julien Maury graduated from l’École Supérieure de Réalisation Audiovisuelle. He worked for French television before directing documentaries, music videos and short films. Alexandre Bustillo graduated from Université Paris XIII with an M.A. in cinema, [4] before working as a journalist for several magazines including Mad Movies . [5] The two met each other through a mutual friend. [6]
Their first film was Inside , a controversial horror film about a pregnant woman stalked by a madwoman who wants her child for herself. Both men co-directed and Bustillo wrote the script. The film was cited as an example of the new wave of French horror films and was a critical success that brought international attention on Maury and Bustillo.[ citation needed ]
After the success of Inside, Maury and Bustillo were attached to at separate times to Halloween II , the sequel to Rob Zombie's remake of John Carpenter's Halloween as well as the remake for Clive Barker's Hellraiser . In both cases, they left the project.[ citation needed ]
Their subsequent film Livid was released 2011. The film was initially intended to be Bustillo and Maury's English-language debut and shot in the United Kingdom but they moved to a lower-budget French production after they found that they were losing creative control over their story. [7] The two are also set to do a segment on Paris, I'll Kill You, a horror film anthology set in Paris, France. [8]

John Howard Carpenter is an American filmmaker, composer, and actor. Most commonly associated with horror, action, and science fiction films of the 1970s and 1980s, he is generally recognized as a master of the horror genre. At the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, the French Directors' Guild gave him the Golden Coach Award and lauded him as "a creative genius of raw, fantastic, and spectacular emotions".
Hellraiser is a 1987 British supernatural horror film written and directed by Clive Barker in his directorial debut, Based on Barker's 1986 novella The Hellbound Heart, the film’s plot concerns a mystical puzzle box that summons the Cenobites, a group of extra-dimensional, sadomasochistic beings who cannot differentiate between pain and pleasure. It stars Andrew Robinson, Clare Higgins, Ashley Laurence, and Doug Bradley as the leader of the Cenobites, identified in the sequels as "Pinhead".
Halloween III: Season of the Witch is a 1982 American science fiction horror film and the third installment in the Halloween film series. It is the first film to be written and directed by Tommy Lee Wallace. John Carpenter and Debra Hill, the creators of Halloween and Halloween II, return as producers. Chanfrault's film music composition work in 2003 included the movie Haute Tension by filmmaker Alexandre Aja and Who Killed Bambi? directed by Gilles Marchand. He released his first music album, Computer-Assisted Sunset, on compact disc in 2005 via the label MK2, which received a positive reception from publications including Fnac and Les Inrocks. The same year, his music was used in the film Beyond Hatred, which was directed by Olivier Meyrou, and received a favorable review in Variety.
