K-PAX Racing is an automobile racing team in the SCCA'sPirelli World Challenge racing series. Founded in 2006, team owner Jim Haughey partnered with Bob Raub, bringing a team of Porsche 911 GT3s to the track. However, from 2009 to 2013, it has campaigned Volvo S60s with great success (K-PAX Racing has also used Volvo C30s in the Touring Car division). For 2014, K-PAX Racing switched to McLaren MP4-12C GT3 race cars and continued its relationship with the manufacturer the following three seasons by updating to the McLaren 650S GT3 model. Since joining the Pirelli World Challenge in 2007, K-PAX Racing has celebrated four driver championships and has solidified the team as a perennial championship contender.
K-PAX Racing was founded in 2006 by Haughey, who formerly owned Scandia Auto Service in Sunnyvale, Calif. The team was based out of Denver, Colo. before relocating to Sonoma, Calif. in 2014. The K-PAX name was influenced by the series of books written by Gene Brewer.
History
In 2007, drivers Randy Pobst and Michael Galati raced for K-PAX during its inaugural season, driving Porsche 911 GT3s in the GT class. Taking the World Challenge Series by storm, Pobst won the Drivers' Championship in 2007 and 2008. In 2008, he and Galati took K-PAX Racing to a Manufacturers' Championship for Porsche. In two seasons, they captured six wins, six poles, 26 top-five finishes and 31 top-10s.
K-PAX switched to new turbocharged Volvo S60 T5 AWD race cars in 2009 for both of its drivers. Driven by Pobst and 2005 Series Champion Andy Pilgrim, K-PAX Racing became one of the preeminent teams of the World Challenge Series. Pobst took the championship crown again in the 2010 season.
Meanwhile, K-PAX Racing introduced the smaller Volvo C30 T5 into the World Championship's Touring Car class in 2011.[1] With a $2 million investment, 3R Racing built the Volvo C30s, which were driven by Aaron Povoledo and Robb Holland, who drove the cars to second- and third-place finishes in the 2011 season. During 2011, Povoledo set a record of six pole positions while winning four races and together he and Holland racked up five wins and eight podium finishes.
In 2012, the K-PAX Racing team returned in both the World Challenge and U.S. Touring Car Championship with newcomer Robert Thorne. Thorne, then 19 years old, competed without a teammate in the Touring Car class. In his first time out, Thorne won the 2012 USTCC series title with three pole positions, one win and six podium finishes. Thorne also competed in one World Challenge Series race at Sonoma Raceway, where he took the checkered flag.[2]
At the same time, veteran Alex Figge joined Pobst in the GT Class, with the drivers taking fifth and third, respectively, in the 2012 Pirelli World Challenge series. The followed up in 2013 with Pobst taking fourth in the drivers' standings and Figge taking fifth.
In late 2013, K-PAX Racing started a new relationship with British automaker McLaren.[3] During the 2014 season K-PAX Racing competed with two McLaren 12C GT3 cars driven by professional drivers Thorne and Figge. Thorne managed two podiums during the course of the season, securing a win during the very last race of the season at Miller Motorsports Park in Utah.
For the 2015 season, K-PAX began a partnership with Flying Lizard Motorsports.[4][5] The team continued its relationship with McLaren GT by competing with two McLaren 650S GT3s. Figge was replaced by McLaren GT factory driver Kevin Estre. Estre would take four wins at Austin, Barber, Detroit, and Sonoma, finishing fifth in points. He would later be picked up by Porsche as a factory driver.
For 2016, Estre and Thorne were replaced by McLaren factory driver Álvaro Parente, as well as young drivers Austin Cindric and Colin Thompson. Parente would take six wins and K-PAX's first championship since 2010. Cindric would take three podiums while Thompson struggled to adjust to the McLaren. To complete the season, K-Pax embarked on its first ever endurance event.[6]
For 2017, Cindric transitioned to the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, and Thompson was released. Replacing Cindric and Thompson was professional driver Bryan Sellers and gentleman driver Mike Hedlund.[7] In addition, K-PAX announced its participation in the Sprint-X championship, with McLaren factory drivers Ben Barnicoat partnering with Parente and veteran Jonny Kane teaming with Sellers in the Pro-Pro category.[8] Hedlund would be teamed with inaugural SprintX champion Michael Lewis in the Pro-Am category. Through the first half of the season, the team fielded three cars before downsizing to its two GT cars. Collectively the team won four races in 2017, finishing runner-up in the Sprint GT Championship.
K-PAX Performance Cars
In late 2010, Haughey partnered with entrepreneur Peter J Nielsen to establish K-PAX Performance Cars. The main objective was to share the knowledge learnt on track by applying it to special edition vehicles and performance parts for Volvo's. K-PAX Performance Cars was officially launched in 2011 with the introduction of a limited run of 25 C30 GT models that were available through select Volvo retailers in North America. Since then the company has produced the special edition S60 GT5, S60 GT6 and V60 GT6. The company continued to grow with over 30 retailers at the end of 2014 before being acquired in January 2017 by Elevate Cars (formerly EVOLVE) of Duarte, Calif.[9]
The GT World Challenge America is a North American auto racing series launched in 1990 by the Sports Car Club of America. It has been managed by the Stephane Ratel Organisation since 2018, and has been sanctioned by the United States Auto Club since 2017.

The Flying Lizard Motorsports group is a motorsport team from Sonoma, California, formed by Seth Neiman in early 2003. The team competed in the full American Le Mans Series season, as well as the 24 Hours of Daytona, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The team went on to win six driver and team championships in the American Le Mans Series, becoming a Porsche factory team and Porsche Motorsport North America's development partner from 2007 to 2012. The team helped develop the first- and second-generation 997 GT3 RSR as well as bring it to victory several times in its six-year run in the series. The team solely raced Porsche cars from 2004 to 2019, becoming a staple in the Porsche racing community.
Carl Rydquist is a Swedish-American FIA Silver and Trans-Am racing driver and a SAG-AFTRA licensed stunt and precision driver who has won many auto races and racing championships. Rydquist gained notoriety for his speed in 2001 when he beat more than 1100 enthusiasts and professional racedrivers in a gocart challenge created by Eurosport to promote their Super Racing Weekend FIA GT and ETCC sports coverage. The event propelled him to his first GT Endurance ride with Apex Racing's Porsche. Rydquist actively competes in racing and has competed in professional drifting. In Rydquist's auto racing career, he currently has a victory in more than one third of his races and podium finishes in three out of four Touring and GT car endurance and sprint races.
Ryan A. Eversley is an American professional auto racing driver. Since 2015, Eversley has been a Honda factory driver who primarily races in sports car racing championships such as the Michelin Pilot Challenge and Pirelli World Challenge. He won the 2018 PWC TCR championship.
RealTime Racing is an American professional motorsports team founded in 1987 by Peter Cunningham and headquartered in Saukville, just north of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. On gravel roads, frozen lakes, permanent road courses, or temporary street circuits, RealTime drivers have piloted Acura and Honda production-based automobiles to 18 professional titles in a variety of motorsports series.
The 2014 Pirelli World Challenge season was the 25th season of the Pirelli World Challenge championship. It marked the debut of a new "Touring Car A-Spec" class. A new "GT A-Spec" class also made its debut. These new classes featured amateur drivers. The series also held a round at Brainerd International Raceway for the first time in its history, with a touring car doubleheader held in support of a Trans Am Series event; also making its series debut was Barber Motorsports Park. The GT groups competed in sixteen fifty-minute sprints on nine circuits. The touring cars competed in fourteen sprints on seven road courses. The first race for GT cars at St. Petersburg was canceled due to heavy rain, so a make-up race was added for the series finale at Miller Motorsports Park. The second race for touring cars at Barber was also canceled due to rain, so a make-up race was added to the schedule at Mosport.
Kévin Estre is a French professional racing driver. He is currently competing in the FIA World Endurance Championship for Porsche in the GTE PRO class.
Lawson L. Aschenbach is an American professional racing driver. He is a four-time Pirelli World Challenge champion, and most recently, the 2014 Pirelli World Challenge GTS Champion. He is the 2006 SPEED World Challenge Rookie of the Year and became the first person to win the SPEED GT Championship in his rookie season. He is also the champion of the 2010 Grand-Am Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge ST Championship and 2014 Lamborghini Super Trofeo ProAM World Champion. Aschenbach first raced professionally in 2005. He currently races for Stevenson Motorsports in the IMSA Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge.
The 2016 Pirelli World Challenge was the 27th running of the Sports Car Club of America's World Challenge series. Johnny O'Connell was the defending champion in the highest class, the GT class.
Austin Louis Cindric is an American professional auto racing driver. He competes full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series, driving the No. 2 Ford Mustang for Team Penske.
Colin Thompson is an American racing driver. After a career in single seaters, Thompson won the IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge Platinum Class in 2014 and the Pirelli World Challenge GT Cup in 2015. He is the son of 1989 American Racing Series driver John Thompson.
Michael Cooper is an American-born race car driver who currently competes in the Pirelli World Challenge. He resides in Huntington, New York, and also has a business management degree from at NYIT, and a nutrition degree from Long Island University.
The 2019 Blancpain GT World Challenge America was the 30th season of the United States Auto Club's Blancpain GT World Challenge America. It was the first under Blancpain sponsorship, taking over from the longtime Pirelli sponsorship, as part of the standardisation of names of Stéphane Ratel Organisation-run GT3 sprint racing series globally, following the series' acquisition by the SRO Motorsports Group. It was also the last under Blancpain sponsorship, after they and the SRO concluded their partnership at the end of 2019. The season began on 2 March in Austin and ended on 20 October at Las Vegas.
The 2019 Pirelli GT4 America Series was the inaugural season of the GT4 America Series. It took over the GTS class of the Pirelli World Challenge, which adopted global GT4 technical regulations in 2018, and it is a Blancpain GT World Challenge America support series. GT4 America Series is split into a Sprint series, which features 50-minute races with one driver per car, and a SprintX series, which features one-hour races with two drivers per car and a mandatory driver change during Pit stops. Also East and West regional championships are awarded. The season began on 2 March in Austin and ended on 20 October in Las Vegas.

The 2022 Fanatec GT World Challenge America Powered by AWS was the sixteenth season of the United States Auto Club's GT World Challenge America, and the fifth under ownership of SRO Motorsports Group.The season began at Sonoma Raceway on April 15, and ended at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on October 8.
