K.V P. Ramachandra (also called "KVP",born 21 June 1948),is a Member of Parliament in India and chief adviser to the former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy. He belongs to the Indian National Congress party. [1] [2] After the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh he was allotted to Telangana state by a draw of lots. [3]
Ramachandra Rao was appointed as chief advisor to the Government of Andhra Pradesh on Public Affairs in a cabinet rank in May 2004. [4] He was elected to the Upper House of the Indian parliament,the Rajya Sabha in April 2008.[ citation needed ]
He is the chairman of the Advisory Committee on Public Affairs,Public Utilities and Public Welfare Activities.[ citation needed ]
On 2 April 2014,Rao was indicted by a US grand jury for his role in an international corruption scheme starting June 2006 involving bribery in the approval of a mining contract with the Government of Andhra Pradesh. [5] [6] [7] The indictment charged Rao with soliciting and distributing bribes for himself and to leaders of the Andhra Pradesh and Central Governments. [8] The Indian National Congress led the ruling party in both the state and central governments between 2006 and February 2014 (in the state).[ citation needed ]
Ramachandra Rao is married,and he and his wife have two sons. [9]
The Telugu Desam Party is an Indian regional political party primarily active in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. It was founded by Telugu matinée idol N. T. Rama Rao (NTR) on 29 March 1982 and has focused on supporting Telugu people. The party has won a five-time majority in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly and has emerged as the most successful political outfit in the state's history. It is currently the ruling party in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly.
The Bharat Rashtra Samithi,formerly known as Telangana Rashtra Samithi,is an Indian political party which is predominantly active in the state of Telangana and currently the primary opposition party in the state. Velama is a Hindu caste found mainly in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The earliest recorded use of the term "Velama" to refer to a community dates back to the 17th century. In the caste based hierarchy,they hold a high position. They are also referred to as "Dora" (Lord) by other castes,a term that signifies respect. The modern Velama community is divided into four distinct categories:Padmanayaka Velama,Adi Velama,Koppula Velama,and Polinati Velama. In general usage,the term Velama refers to Padmanayaka Velama,a Forward caste.

On 20 February 2024,he was unanimously elected to the Rajya Sabha as a YSR Congress Party candidate along with Y. V. Subba Reddy and Meda Raghunath Reddy.
