Kartikeya Sharma (born 14 May 1981) is an Indian politician, entrepreneur and media baron, currently serving as a Member of the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian Parliament from Haryana. He won by defeating the Congress leader Ajay Maken in a highly contested election on 10 June 2022. [1] Kartikeya is the founder of ITV Media Network, which operates multiple news channels, including those in National, English, Hindi, and 7 regional languages, along with print newspapers such as the Sunday Guardian , Daily Guardian and Aaj Samaj . Personal life

Sharma was born to politician Venod Sharma and Shakti Rani Sharma on 14 May 1981. [3] He is married to author and professor Aishwarya Sharma (daughter of Indian National Congress politician Kuldeep Sharma, former speaker of Haryana Legislative Assembly [4] [5] ) since 2011. On April 24, 2023, Sharma had a road accident on the Western Peripheral Expressway while returning to Gurugram from a Parshuram Jayanti program in Charkhi Dadri. [6] In accordance with his affidavit, Kartikeya Sharma declares ownership of assets exceeding Rs 387 crore. [1]

Political career

Kartikeya Sharma is elected to Rajya Sabha [7] [8] [9] [10] [11] [12] [13] [14] [15] [16] [17] in 2022 Rajya Sabha elections. [18] [19] [20] [7] [8] [9] [10] Kartikeya Sharma was part of a parliamentary delegation, headed by Deputy Chairperson of the Rajya Sabha, Harivansh Narayan Singh. The delegation attended the 145th assembly of the Interparliamentary Union (IPU) in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda, from October 11 to 15, 2022. [21] [22] In December 2022, he attended the Shri Parshuram Mahakumbh organised in Karnal. [23] [24]

Business

Kartikeya Sharma completed his Bachelor of Business Administration from King's College London. In 2007, he founded ITV Media. He launched a series of regional TV channels under India News; by 2015, India News managed five regional channels that covered Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar and Jharkhand. [25]

Later on, Sharma acquired, through ITV Media, English language news channel NewsX. [26] [27] He entered the print media with the acquisition of The Sunday Guardian, an English language Sunday newspaper, and Aaj Samaj, a Hindi language daily newspaper. [27] [28] [29] He has also been involved with News Wire Services, an Indian TV news wire service. [30]

Kartikeya Sharma is the Owner of Picaadily Hotels, Which Along With Hyatt owns a Range of Properties in Delhi and Parts of Haryana and Punjab. In 2015, Sharma set up Pro Sportify with Ashish Chadha, CEO of the Sporty Solutionz, a company that runs the Pro Wrestling League. [31] [32] [33]

Awards

Kartikeya Sharma got the Champions of Change Award 2022. He also won the award for the Best CEO of the Year at the 2016 eNBA Awards. [34] [35] He was honoured with Person Of The Year Award by the Businessworld in 2022. [36]

<i>The Kapil Sharma Show</i> Indian stand-up comedy and talk show

The Kapil Sharma Show, also known as TKSS, is an Indian Hindi language stand-up comedy and talk show broadcast by Sony Entertainment Television. Hosted by Kapil Sharma, the first season of the show had its premiere on 23 April 2016. The series revolved around Kapil Sharma and his neighbours in the Shantivan Non Co-operative Housing Society. The filming of the show took place at Film City situated in Goregaon East, Mumbai. The first season of the show was produced by Sharma's banner K9 Productions in association with Frames Productions while the second and third season is being jointly produced by Salman Khan Television and Banijay Asia with K9 Productions and TEAM as the creative producers. The show's fifth season was launched in September 2022 in which Archana Puran Singh reprised her role as the guest judge. As per the reports, the team also saw some new actors joining the star cast.

ITV Network has leading news channels in the country like NewsX, India News, India News Haryana, India News Rajasthan, India News MPCG and India News Punjab. <span class="mw-page-title-main">17th Lok Sabha</span> 17th lower house of the Parliament of India (2019–)

The 17th Lok Sabha was formed by the members elected in the 2019 Indian general election. Elections, all across India, were conducted in seven phases from 11 April 2019 to 19 May 2019 by the Election Commission of India. Counting started officially on the morning of 23 May 2019 and the results were declared on the same day.

2020 Rajya Sabha elections were the set of indirect elections by the members of State legislatures of India, to elect new members to fill vacancies in the Rajya Sabha – the upper house of the Parliament of India. The elections are held annually and throughout the year on an ad hoc basis. The elections in 2020 are for a total of 73 seats of which 55 of them were to be elected by March 26.
