Kashiyatra, also known as KY, is the annual socio-cultural festival of Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi. It is a four-day long mega event held in January every year, and is one of the most prominent [1] college festivals in India. Kashiyatra is one of the largest socio-culture festivals in Asia where 360+ colleges/universities take part.[ citation needed ]

Kashiyatra witnesses a large number of participants across the country with having a footfall of 90,000+ participation footfall and organises 60+ events with many Celebrities performances. It provides a definite platform for the participants to showcase youths' talents as well as skills. The festival offers an unprecedented opportunity to meet and interact face to face with a large number of potential and targeted competitors across all the events.[ citation needed ]

History

Kashiyatra had its first edition in the year 1981. [2] It has been named Sparsh and Spandan in the past. Over the years, Kashiyatra has seen the participation of prominent Indian cultural icons like classical singers Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, Ustad Bismillah Khan, and singers Shubha Mudgal, Shaan, Lucky Ali, Shibani Kashyap and Javed Ali. In 2006, Miss India Earth 2005 Niharika Singh took part in a fashion show organised as a part of it. Well known bands like Parikrama and Indian Ocean too have performed here.[ citation needed ]

Banaras Hindu University (BHU) is a collegiate, central, and research university located in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India, and founded in 1916. The university incorporated the Central Hindu College, which had been founded by future Indian Home Rule-league leader and theosophist, Annie Besant in 1898. By 1911 Besant and her associates were marginalised on the governing board of the Central Hindu College by Madan Mohan Malviya and his associates, who preferred a more orthodox version of Hindusim to Besant's more theosophy-oriented Sanatana Dharma, for which she had written the text-books. Besant had also become involved in founding the India Home Rule League with Bal Gangadhar Tilak, leaving the university to be established in 1916 by Malaviya with the support of the maharaja of Darbhanga Rameshwar Singh, the maharaja of Benares Prabhu Narayan Singh, and the lawyer Sunder Lal. With over 30,000 students, and 18,000 residing on campus, BHU is the largest residential university in Asia. The university is one of the eight public institutions declared as an Institute of Eminence by the Government of India. It is also one of the 12 institutions from India in BRICS Universities League, a consortium of leading research universities from BRICS countries.

IIT (BHU) Varanasi has 16 departments, 3 inter-disciplinary schools and a Humanities & Social Sciences Section. It is located inside the Banaras Hindu University Campus.

Sri Ranveer Sanskrit Vidyalaya, informally Ranveer Sanskrit Vidyalaya or RSV is more than a century old Sanskrit school under the Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh India.

Kamlakar Tripathi is an Indian physician and Former Professor in the Department of Medicine, BHU Institute of Medical Sciences. He has been the Head of Nephrology Department. He has served as the Chairman of the Department of General Medicine, BHU from 1998 to 2001 and the President of the Indian Hypertension Society from 2008 to 2009. He also held the responsibility of Dean in-charge of the BHU Institute.

Surendra Singh Jadawat is an Indian politician and former Chairman of Rajasthan Heritage Conservation and Promotion Authority. He was a Minister of State in the Third Ashok Gehlot ministry. He has also represented Chittorgarh Assembly constituency in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly between 1998 and 2003 and 2008–2013. He is a member of All India Congress Committee.

On 1 November 2023, a 22-year-old B.Tech student of IIT-BHU was allegedly waylaid, stripped and gang-raped. They also filmed the girl at gunpoint, in Banaras district, Uttar Pradesh, India, by three Members of the BJP IT Cell.

Manikarnika International Film Festival is an annual film festival held in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. Inaugurated in 2022, The event is organised by Manikarnika Film Festival Trust.
