The Kashmir Premier League (KPL) is a Twenty20 cricket league in Jammu and Kashmir [1] The league was started in 2011 by the Indian Army and the Government of Jammu and Kashmir. [2] [3] The Army sponsors the teams, and provides cricket kits and refreshments. The purpose of the Kashmir Premier League is to build bridges between Kashmiris and Indian Army men. [4] [5] [6] The league is the brainchild of Group Officer Commanding (GOC) of XV Corps, Lieutenant General Syed Ata Hasnain. [7] The T20 cricket tournament is part of the Indian Army's Operation Sadhbhavana. [8] [9]
In the initial editions of KPL, Srinagar, Baramulla, Anantnag and Budgam districts fielded two teams each while as Kupwara, Bandipora, Kulgam, Pulwama, Shopian and Ganderbal fielded one team each in League Stage. The teams played 50 matches over a span of 41 days. [10] The winner of the tournament will get ₹ 5 lakh (US$6,000) while the runners-up gets ₹ 3 lakh. [11] The team which finishes third place gets ₹ 2 lakh. [12]
In 2012, then Indian captain Mahendra singh Dhoni was chief guest in second edition in Baramulla. [13] [14] Swarnim Vijay Varsh Kashmir Premier League 2021 Phase-1 started in July 2021. [15] Phase 2 of Kashmir Premier League 2021 started in Srinagar on 28 July 2021. [16] [17] The Final of 2021 Swarnim Vijay Varsh Kashmir Premier League was played between Badgam Braves and Shahi Shopian at Sher-i-Kashmir Stadium, Srinagar on 29 August 2021. [18] Badgam Braves won two month long 2021 Kashmir Premier League, in which 199 teams from all over Kashmir valley participated. [19] Indian Cricketer Yusuf Pathan was present as the chief guest in the final. [20] The 5th edition of Kashmir Premier League (KPL) concluded on 24 August 2022, [21] when Kulgam Knights defeated Anantnag Achievers by 20 runs at Sher-i-Kashmir Stadium, Srinagar. [22] Over 200 teams from across Kashmir valley participated in Phase-1 of the Kashmir Premier League 2022, which commenced on June 1,2022. 10 victorious teams thereafter competed for the coveted trophy in the months of July and August 2022.
There was proposal to merge Kashmir Premier League and Jammu Premier League.[ citation needed ]
The qualifying rounds were being held across the various districts, with the winner from each district advancing to the League Stage. [23] The League Stage featuring 14 teams from all the 10 districts in the Kashmir valley.
Anantnag district is an administrative district of Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir in the disputed Kashmir region. It is one of ten districts which make up the Kashmir Valley. The district headquarters is Anantnag city. As of 2011, it was the third most populous district of Jammu and Kashmir, after Jammu and Srinagar.

They also maintain public order by drawing powers from the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1990 (AFSPA). The RR was raised by the Indian Army by reconstituting two corps. Its personnel are provided by the Indian Army on deputation. The RR is commanded by an Additional Director General of Rashtriya Rifles.
Ganderbal is a town and a municipality committee in Ganderbal District in the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. It is the headquarters of Ganderbal district. It is in Central Kashmir; it has an average elevation of 1,619 metres. Sonamarg is the most famous place in Ganderbal; Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra is also traversed through Ganderbal district.
Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir is an agricultural university located in Shalimar, Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, India. With its main campus and Faculty of Horticulture in Shalimar, Srinagar, the university has multiple campuses, colleges, research and extension centers across the Kashmir Valley and Ladakh Union Territory. Budgam district is an administrative district of Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir in Kashmir region. Created in 1979 with its headquarters at the town of Budgam, it is the district with the largest population of Shia Muslims in the Kashmir valley.

Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) is an organisation that governs and manages cricket in the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. It fields the Jammu and Kashmir cricket team in the Ranji Trophy domestic tournament. It is a member of the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
The Kashmir division is a revenue and administrative division of the Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir in the disputed Kashmir region. Pashtuns of Kashmir and the Pathans in Kashmir include Pashtun people (Pathans) that may still follow Pashtunwali and speak Pashto as their mother-tongue who have settled in the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. While there are also a large number of people throughout Kashmir who claim Pashtun ancestry through forefathers who migrated to the region under the Afghan rule in Kashmir. While exact numbers are hard to determine, cursory estimates put the number of these Pathans or Pashtuns above 100,000. Many of these Pathans have over time absorbed Kashmiriyat and use Kashmiri language as their second language, although some people following Pashtunwali customs and aspects of Pashtun culture and Pashto are still notably practiced among the community, largely of them resides in district Ganderbal (Gutlibagh) and Anantnag, there are also Pathans in district Kishtwar, Baramulla and Kupwara (Haihama).

Budgam Railway Station is a station on Northern Railway Network of Indian Railways. This station is the headquarter of Jammu–Baramulla line network. It is located in Ompora, a town in Budgam district nearly 2.5 km (1.6 mi) from main town Budgam.
Indian Army operations in Jammu and Kashmir include security operations such as Operation Rakshak, which began in 1990, Operation Sarp Vinash in 2003 and Operation Randori Behak in 2020. Other operations include humanitarian missions such as Operation Megh Rahat and operations with a social aim such as Operation Goodwill and Operation Calm Down. The Indian Army works in tandem with the other arms of the Indian Armed Forces and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir such as during Mission Sahayata or joint operations.
Budgam, known as Badgom in Kashmiri, is a town in Budgam district in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, India. In the 2001 census, it was recorded as having a notified area committee, but by the 2011 census it had a municipal committee.
The Resistance Front (TRF) is a militant organisation actively engaged in insurgency in Jammu and Kashmir, and designated as a terrorist organisation in India. Indian government and other experts believe that the organisation was founded by and is an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba, a Pakistan-based Jihadist terrorist group. The group is responsible for attacks on and killings of civilians, including those belonging to religious minority communities such as Kashmiri Hindus government employees, labourers and business owners, local politicians, and tourists, as well as for several attacks on Indian security forces including local policemen.
