Keishamthong Thoibi is a 2008 Manipuri film directed by O. Gautam and produced by R.K. Chandrabal under the banner of Diana Films. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] It stars Lairenjam Olen, Bidyaluxmi Devi, Chinglen Thiyam and Thongam Thoithoi in the lead roles. The story was written by Chana Lukhoi and screenplay by Narendra Ningomba. [6] [7] The film was released at Hapta Kangjeibung, Imphal on 20 November 2008. [8] It is based on the Shumang Kumhei of the same title. [9]

Plot

Eigya Pameshor, a Brahmin falls in love with Thoibi, a tribal lady from Keishamthong. When they eloped and get married, Eigya Gopal (an orthodox Brahmin) part ways with his son. Time and experience teaches Eigya Gopal that humanity has no religion and God is one.

Sorri Senjam composed the soundtrack for the movie and Narendra Ningomba wrote the lyrics. Maibam Roshibina, Konthoujam Bobin, Pushparani Huidrom, Huidrom Nowboy and Mandakini Takhellambam are the playback singers. The movie has four songs.

Shumang Kumhei, also known as Shumang Leela, is a Meitei traditional form of theatre, usually performed in Manipur, North East India. The theatre is arranged in the form of open air from four sides. The roles are all played by male actors, some dressed as beautiful ladies. The role of male characters are played by female artists in case of female theatre groups. This traditional theatre form was prevalent since the time of monarchical rule in Manipur. But the proper form of Shumang Leela had its inception in 1895 A.D.

Makhonmani Mongsaba is an Indian author, actor, producer and director from Imphal, Manipur. He got his doctorate degree in Manipuri from Manipur University. In 2013, he won the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award for his book Chinglon Amadagi Amada, a travelogue. He published the book Matamgi Manipur:The First Manipuri Feature Film by Bobby Wahengbam under the name Angomningthou Preservation and Documentation. It won the Best Book on Cinema at the 65th National Film Awards 2018 and both the writer and the publisher received the Swarna Kamal award.

Thiyam had also acted in many Manipuri films. He was popularly known as Commando Chinglen from the Shumang Leela Thawaina Punshigidamak. Not only in digital films, but he had also acted in Manipuri celluloid movies. He was conferred with the Iboyaima Shumang Leela Award in 2020 for his profound contribution in Shumang Leela. Wari Loidri, Khomlang Laman, Thawaina Punshigidamak, Sanagi Nga, Keishamthong Thoibi were some of the famous plays where he acted.

Aronba Wari is a 2020 Manipuri film directed by OC Meira and produced by Rajkumari Nalini Devi, under the banner of Seuti Films. It stars Silheiba Ningthoujam, Suraj Ngashepam, Bala Hijam and Sushmita Mangsatabam in the lead roles. The movie is based on Sarungbam Binodini Devi's novel Minoktugi Marumda. It was initially slated to be released on 21 March 2020 but postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. His main mentor in acting and cinema is his eldest brother and celebrated filmmaker, Ojitbabu Ningthoujam. He started portraying lead roles in movies, starting with the 2014 film Leikai Lallumba.
