Kenneth Dunstan Elder Travers (born 1 February 1961) is a former Australian politician who was a Labor Party member of the Legislative Council of Western Australia from 1997 to 2016, representing North Metropolitan Region.
Travers was born in Bramber, Sussex, England, to Ailsa (née Elder) and Laurence John Travers. [1] He is a descendant of Edward Ogilvie, a 19th-century member of the New South Wales Legislative Council. [2] Travers' parents moved to Perth when he was an infant, and he attended Mount Lawley Senior High School. After leaving school, he was employed as a customs officer for several years, and later also as a bus driver. From 1989, he worked as a political adviser and electorate officer, including in the office of Senator Chris Evans. [1]
Travers was elected to parliament at the 1996 state election, to a term commencing in May 1997. He was immediately included in the shadow ministry of Geoff Gallop. However, when Labor was elected to government at the 2001 election, Travers was not made a minister, but instead only a parliamentary secretary. After the 2005 election, he was made deputy chairman of committees in the Legislative Council, a position which he held until 2013. The Labor government was defeated at the 2008 election, and Travers was included in the shadow ministry formed by the new leader, Eric Ripper. [3] He retained his place when Mark McGowan replaced Ripper as leader in 2012, but resigned from the shadow ministry in June 2015 for personal reasons. [4] Travers retired from parliament in August 2016, and was replaced by Laine McDonald. [5]

Louise Clare Pratt is an Australian politician who has been a Senator for Western Australia since 2016, and previously from 2008 to 2014. She is a member of the Labor Party, and served as a member of the Western Australian Legislative Council from 2001 to 2007. She was the youngest woman ever elected to the Legislative Council at the time of her election, the second open lesbian to be elected to an Australian parliament, and was the first to have a transgender man as a partner.

Alannah Joan Geraldine Cecilia MacTiernan is an Australian politician. A member of the Australian Labor Party, she was elected to the Western Australian Legislative Council in 1993, moving to the Legislative Assembly in 1996, where she served as a senior minister in the Gallop state Labor government. She resigned from state politics in July 2010 in an unsuccessful attempt to win the federal seat of Canning at the 2010 federal election, then moved to local politics as the mayor of the City of Vincent from 2011 to 2013. She was elected to the federal seat of Perth at the 2013 federal election, though did not contest the seat at the 2016 federal election. She returned to Western Australian state politics at the 2017 state election as a Legislative Council member for the North Metropolitan region.

The Australian Labor Party , commonly known as Victorian Labor, is the semi-autonomous Victorian branch of the Australian Labor Party (ALP). The Victorian branch comprises two major wings: the parliamentary wing and the organisational wing. The parliamentary wing comprising all elected party members in the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council, which when they meet collectively constitute the party caucus. The parliamentary leader is elected from and by the caucus, and party factions have a strong influence in the election of the leader. The leader's position is dependent on the continuing support of the caucus and the leader may be deposed by failing to win a vote of confidence of parliamentary members. By convention, the premier sits in the Legislative Assembly, and is the leader of the party controlling a majority in that house. The party leader also typically is a member of the Assembly, though this is not a strict party constitutional requirement.
