Kenneth Makelo Lusaka (born 18 September 1963) is the current governor of Bungoma County. Previously,he served as the speaker of Senate [2017 -2022] and was the 1st Governor of Bungoma County in Kenya,a term he served between 4 March 2013 to 8 August 2017 where he was defeated by Wycliffe Wafula Wangamati in the 2017 General Elections.
Ken Lusaka Was born on (18 September 1963) in Bungoma County. He attended Kamukuywa Primary School,then Kibabii High School [1] for his 'O' Levels and later Chesamisi High School and Friends School Kamusinga for his 'A' levels. After high school,he went on to complete a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government and History. From the Institute of Social Studies in the Netherlands,he earned an MA in Public Policy and Administration,and was the President of Scholars for the student body. [2]
In 2013,Ken Lusaka ran successfully for the position of Bungoma governor,alongside Alfred Khangati,Maurice Makhanu,Jack Tumwa and Wabwoba Walinywa. [3] [4] [5] In the course of his tenure as a governor he moved to Jubilee Party on which he attempted to secure a second term on 8 August 2017. He,however,failed but was fronted by the Jubilee Party as a candidate for speaker of the Senate. On 31 August 2017,Lusaka won the speaker seat on second round with 42 votes against his closest rival Farah Maalim who garnered 25 votes thus becoming the second speaker of the senate in the history of Kenya. In September 2015,the county government of Bungoma was audited and it was discovered that the county had spent Kshs 1,093,200 (approximately $10,881) on 10 wheelbarrows for the Bungoma slaughterhouse,suggesting that the wheelbarrows cost Kshs 109,320 ($1,088) each. In response to the outrage sparked by Kenyans over what appeared to be massive waste of taxpayer money by the government,Governor Lusaka said that,"The information that I am getting from the veterinary department is that these are not the ordinary wheelbarrows that we know. These are wheelbarrows that are made of stainless,non-carcinogenic material and are used in the food industry." However,he later said that he had begun investigations and ordered the tender and evaluation committees to justify the purchases. [7]
Bungoma is the capital of Bungoma County in Kenya. It was established as a trading centre in the early 20th century. It is located in Kenya's fertile Western region and at the foot of Mount Elgon,Kenya's second-tallest mountain. The town and the surrounding areas boast one of Kenya's highest average rainfalls,making Bungoma one of the nation's most important food baskets.
Forum for the Restoration of Democracy–Kenya (FORD–Kenya) is a Kenyan political party. The party has sat in the government of Kenya once,under the National Rainbow Coalition,from 2003 to 2007,having ended forty years of one party rule. In April 2022,the party joined the Kenya Kwanza coalition for the August 2022 elections,and is headed by Moses Wetangula,the current speaker of the National Assembly of Kenya. The party tends to be more popular among the Luhya people.

He is currently awaiting trial for the mismanagement of a county fund of over five million dollars. He also served as an assistant minister for Water Services and Irrigation in the government of Kenya.
Local elections were held in Bungoma County to elect a Governor and County Assembly on 4 March 2013. Under the new constitution,which was passed in a 2010 referendum,the 2013 general elections were the first in which Governors and members of the County Assemblies for the newly created counties were elected. They will also be the first general elections run by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission(IEBC)which has released the official list of candidates.
Ekwee David Ethuro is a Kenyan politician. Currently he is the Chairperson of the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB). He was elected as the first Speaker of the modern Kenyan Senate on 28 March 2013. From 1998 to 2013 he served as a Member of Parliament representing Turkana Central. He also served as the Assistant Minister for Planning and National Development from 1998 to 2002 under the government of President Daniel arap Moi. He was re-elected as Member of Parliament for Turkana Central in the 2007 general elections and steered the proceedings of the 10th Parliament in the position of acting Speaker of the House whenever the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker were absent.

Timothy Wanyonyi Wetangula is a Kenyan lawyer and politician serving as a member of parliament representing Westlands Constituency. He was first elected as a councillor for the defunct Nairobi City Council in 2007 election,before being elected Westlands MP during 2013 elections and defended his seat in the 2017 and 2022 general elections held on 8 August 2017 and 9 August 2022 respectively. He is a half-brother to Moses Wetangula,the Speaker of the National Assembly of Kenya and former senator for Bungoma County. He is a member of the Orange Democratic Movement.
Kibabii University is a public university in Kenya located in Bungoma County along Bungoma-Chwele highway. Previously a constituent college of Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology,the university was granted its Charter by President Kenyatta in November 2015. It offers,among other programs,the Bachelor of Commerce.

Wycliffe Wafula Wangamati is a Kenyan national and politician who served as the second governor of Bungoma on a Ford Kenya ticket. Wangamati came to power after defeating Kenneth Lusaka in the 2017 election. In the election on August 9,2022,he was again defeated by Kenneth Lusaka who was then the Speaker of the Senate. Wangamati only ruled Bungoma County for One term.
The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) is the current ruling political party in Kenya. Their slogan is "Kazi ni Kazi" and their symbol is a wheelbarrow. The party,initially called the Party of Development and Reforms,officially changed its name to UDA in December 2020. The party became notable in January 2021,and is allied with William Ruto,the President of Kenya. It tends to be more popular among the Kalenjin people.
