Bungoma is the headquarters of Bungoma County in Kenya. It was established as a trading centre in the early 20th century. It is located in Kenya's fertile Western region and at the foot of Mount Elgon,Kenya's second tallest mountain. The town and the surrounding areas boast of one of Kenya's highest average rainfall,making it one of the nation's most important food baskets.

He is currently awaiting trial for the mismanagement of county fund of over five million dollars. He also served as an assistant minister for Water Services and Irrigation in the government of Kenya.
Local elections were held in Bungoma County to elect a Governor and County Assembly on 4 March 2013. Under the new constitution,which was passed in a 2010 referendum,the 2013 general elections were the first in which Governors and members of the County Assemblies for the newly created counties were elected. The 11th Parliament of Kenya was the meeting of the legislative branch of the national government of Kenya,which began on 28 March 2013. The constitution re-established the Senate and increased the size of the National Assembly from 224 seats to 349 seats.

It was announced on 30 August 2017 that he will be named Chairman of Kenya's Council of Governors. Unfortunately he didn't get to,instead governor Wycliffe Oparanya took over from NANOK. In October 2022,he was appointed the Cabinet Secretary for Mining,Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs Cabinet Secretary.
Timothy Wanyonyi Wetangula is a Kenyan lawyer and politician serving as a member of parliament representing Westlands Constituency. He was first elected as a councillor for the defunct Nairobi City Council in 2007 election,before being elected Westlands MP during 2013 elections and defended his seat in the 2017 and 2022 general elections held on 8 August 2017 and 9 August 2022 respectively. He is a half-brother to Moses Wetangula,the Speaker of the National Assembly of Kenya and former senator for Bungoma County. He is a member of the Orange Democratic Movement.
Kibabii University is a public university in Kenya located in Bungoma County along Bungoma-Chwele highway. Previously a constituent college of Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology,the university was granted its Charter by President Kenyatta in November 2015. It offers,among other programs,the Bachelor of Commerce.
Irungu Kang'ata is a Kenyan politician. He is the governor of Muranga County. He also is the former senator of Murang'a County,and the former Senate of Kenya Majority Chief Whip,former member of parliament for Kiharu Constituency and a former Councillor for Central Ward in Murang'a town. He is a law graduate from the University of Nairobi and a principal in the firm Irungu Kangata &Co. Advocates located at Flamingo Towers 4th floor,Upperhill,Nairobi. He holds PhD (Law) University of Nairobi and teaches law at Catholic University of Eastern Africa,Nairobi.
Wycliffe Wafula Wangamati is a Kenyan national and politician who served as the second governor of Bungoma on a Ford Kenya ticket. Wangamati came to power after defeating Kenneth Lusaka in the 2017 election. In the election on August 9,2022,he was again defeated by Kenneth Lusaka who was then the Speaker of the Senate. Wangamati only ruled Bungoma County for One term.
