Kenyatte Hassell is a Democratic politician who is currently the representative for Alabama's 78th House of Representatives district,representing parts of Montgomery,Alabama. [1] Hassell was first elected in a special election to fill the vacancy caused by then-representative Kirk Hatcher's elevation to the State Senate. [2]
Hassell won reelection without opposition in either the primary or the general election during the 2022 cycle. [3]
In April 2023,Hassell sponsored House Bill 360 to remove Robert E. Lee’s birthday as a state holiday. [4] It died in committee.

The Republican and Democratic primaries were held on May 24,2022,and any races in which no candidate exceeded one-half plus one of the total votes advanced to a runoff on June 21,2022. This was the first election cycle since 2002 in which the Libertarian Party of Alabama was on the ballot,as they exceeded the threshold for petition signatures needed to gain ballot access in Alabama.
