Kevin Andrew Chambers is an American attorney and former certified public accountant serving as an associate deputy attorney general in the Biden administration. In March 2022,he was appointed to serve as director for COVID-19 Fraud Enforcement in the United States Department of Justice.
Chambers earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting,and a Bachelor of Arts in English,from the University at Albany,SUNY in 1997 and a Juris Doctor from Yale Law School in 2004. [1]
From 1997 to 2000,Chambers worked as an auditor at Ernst &Young. After law school,he worked as an associate at WilmerHale from 2004 to 2006. Before joining the DOJ,Chambers was a partner at Latham &Watkins where he earned over $3 million during 2020 according to his financial disclosure form. [2] As Associate Deputy Attorney General,he managed the Criminal Division portfolio and advised the Deputy Attorney General on the Department's corporate criminal enforcement policy and related prosecutions. [3] Earlier in his legal career,he served in the Office of the United States Attorney for the District of Columbia,where he worked on the prosecution of musician Chris Brown. [4]
In March 2022,following President Biden's announcement of a chief prosecutor during his State of the Union Address,Chambers was selected to serve as director for COVID-19 Fraud Enforcement. [5] [6] In the role,Chambers will manage the COVID-19 Fraud Enforcement Task Force,a multi-agency task force that will include officials from the DOJ,United States Department of Labor,United States Department of the Treasury,United States Department of Homeland Security,Small Business Administration,Pandemic Response Accountability Committee,and others. Jeffrey Bossert Clark is an American lawyer who was Assistant Attorney General for the Environment and Natural Resources Division from 2018 to 2021. In September 2020,he was also appointed acting head of the Civil Division. In 2020 and 2021,Clark allegedly helped then-president Donald Trump attempt to overturn the 2020 presidential election. Clark's actions in that endeavor were reviewed by the District of Columbia Bar –the entity authorized by law to pursue attorney discipline and disbarment in the District of Columbia –which recommended discipline to the DC Court of Appeals in July 2022,and in August 2024 its Board on Professional Responsibility recommended a two year suspension of his law license. The Cole Memorandum was a United States Department of Justice memorandum issued August 29,2013,by United States Deputy Attorney General James M. Cole during the presidency of Barack Obama. The memorandum,sent to all United States Attorneys,governed federal prosecution of offenses related to marijuana. The memo stated that given its limited resources,the Justice Department would not enforce federal marijuana prohibition in states that "enacted laws legalizing marijuana in some form and ... implemented strong and effective regulatory and enforcement systems to control the cultivation,distribution,sale,and possession of marijuana," except where a lack of federal enforcement would undermine federal priorities.
Associate deputy attorney general is a position in the Office of the Deputy Attorney General in the United States Department of Justice.
