Kim Kum-sok (born 19 August 1987) is a North Korean weightlifter, [1] representing the Amnokgang Sports Team. [2] He competed for North Korea at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the 69 kg weight division. [1]
No Kum-sok was a North Korean-born American engineer and aviator who served as a senior lieutenant in the Korean People's Army Air and Anti-Air Force during the Korean War. Under colonial rule,No was required to adopt a Japanese name,Okamura Kiyoshi. Approximately two months after the end of hostilities,he defected to South Korea in a MiG-15 aircraft,and was subsequently granted political asylum in the United States. He then adopted the English name Kenneth H. Rowe.

Operation Moolah was a United States Air Force (USAF) effort during the Korean War to obtain through defection a fully capable Soviet MiG-15 jet fighter. Communist forces introduced the MiG-15 to Korea on November 1,1950. USAF pilots reported that the performance of the MiG-15 was superior to all United Nations aircraft,including the USAF's newest plane,the F-86 Sabre. The operation focused on influencing Communist pilots to defect to South Korea with a MiG for a financial reward. The success of the operation is disputable since no Communist pilot defected before the armistice was signed on July 27,1953. However,on September 21,1953,North Korean pilot Lieutenant No Kum-Sok flew his MiG-15 to the Kimpo Air Base,South Korea,unaware of Operation Moolah.

The Kapsan faction incident was an unsuccessful attempt to undermine the power of Kim Il Sung,the leader of North Korea,around the year 1967. The "Kapsan faction" was a group of veterans of the anti-Japanese struggle of the 1930s and 1940s that was initially close to Kim Il Sung. In the wake of the 2nd Conference of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) in 1966,the faction sought to introduce economic reforms,challenge Kim Il-sung's cult of personality,and appoint its ringleader Pak Kum-chol as his successor.

With only one candidate on the ballot in each constituency,outside observers described it as a show election. 687 candidates for the DPRK deputies to the SPA were elected. Kim Jong Un did not stand for election,marking the first time that a North Korean leader did not participate as a candidate.
Pak Kum-chol was a North Korean politician. Having been a guerrilla during the anti-Japanese struggle,he became a high-ranking politician after the liberation of Korea. Pak aligned himself with his former guerrilla brothers in arms from the Kapsan Operation Committee to form a faction within the ruling Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) called the "Kapsan faction". This faction sought to replace Kim Il Sung with Pak. Kim retaliated by purging the faction in 1967 in what is known as the Kapsan Faction Incident. Pak was sent to work at a factory in the countryside and was either executed or died by suicide in May 1967.
