Vampire Cop Ricky is a 2006 South Korean film.
Our School's E.T. is a 2008 South Korean comedy-drama film directed by Park Kwang-chun. It stars Kim Su-ro as an unconventional, "alien-like" high school P.E. teacher whose position is put at stake when the school adopts a new policy to boost English education, so he decides that becoming an English teacher (E.T.) overnight is his only hope.
Death Bell 2: Bloody Camp is a 2010 Korean slasher film. The film was directed by Yoo Sun-dong. The film is a sequel to the 2008 film Death Bell. The story is unrelated to the previous film.
In 2009, it was The Lower Depths , a play by Maxim Gorky considered to be one of the most important works of Russian Socialist realism, that drew Kim back to the theater. Kim made his first foray into producing plays with Lee Gi-dong Gymnasium in 2010 (which he also starred in), and its commercial success led him to establish the Kim Su-ro Project in 2011, which aims to produce original works by local playwrights. His first production, Audacious Romance starring Lee Hyun-jin, was a hit and laid the foundation for succeeding productions such as Love Generation, and the musicals Coffee Prince, Black Mary Poppins, and Agatha. Kim starred in another restaging of The Lower Depths in 2014, which is his company's ninth production. [5]
The Lower Depths is perhaps the best known of Maxim Gorky's plays. It was written during the winter of 1901 and the spring of 1902. Subtitled "Scenes from Russian Life," it depicted a group of impoverished Russians living in a shelter near the Volga. Produced by the Moscow Arts Theatre on December 18, 1902, Konstantin Stanislavski directed and starred. It became his first major success, and a hallmark of Russian social realism.
Alexei Maximovich Peshkov, primarily known as Maxim Gorky, was a Russian and Soviet writer, a founder of the socialist realism literary method, and a political activist. He was also a five-time nominee for the Nobel Prize in Literature. Around fifteen years before success as a writer, he frequently changed jobs and roamed across the Russian Empire; these experiences would later influence his writing. Gorky's most famous works were The Lower Depths (1902), Twenty-six Men and a Girl (1899), The Song of the Stormy Petrel (1901), My Childhood (1913–1914), Mother (1906), Summerfolk (1904) and Children of the Sun (1905). He had an association with fellow Russian writers Leo Tolstoy and Anton Chekhov; Gorky would later mention them in his memoirs.
Socialist realism is a style of idealized realistic art that was developed in the Soviet Union and was the official style in that country between 1932 and 1988, as well as in other socialist countries after World War II. Socialist realism is characterized by the glorified depiction of communist values, such as the emancipation of the proletariat. Despite its name, the figures in the style are very often highly idealized, especially in sculpture, where it often leans heavily on the conventions of classical sculpture. Although related, it should not be confused with social realism, a type of art that realistically depicts subjects of social concern, or other forms of "realism" in the visual arts.
