Kishen Mangaldas Narsi (born 1939) is an International Referee and Vice-Chairman of the Executive Committee of the International Boxing Association (AIBA) who has officiated in three Olympics. [1] [3] [4] He has been appointed an International Technical Official by the AIBA for the forthcoming London Olympics. [5]

Early life

Narsi went to St. Xavier's College, Mumbai and was the Sports Captain of the college. He has also captained the boxing team of the University of Mumbai and turned out for Bombay Gymkhana in hockey. Apart from sports, he is a marketing professional. [2]

Career

He was an official for boxing at the Asian GamesBangkok (1978), Delhi (1982), and a Referee and Judge at the OlympicsLos Angeles (1984), Seoul (1988) and Barcelona (1992), besides the Commonwealth Games, the Asian and the World Boxing Championships. [2] [6]

Mangte Chungneijang "Mary" Kom is an Indian Olympic boxer, politician, and former Member of Rajya Sabha. She is the only woman to win the World Amateur Boxing Championship six times, the only female boxer to have won a medal in each one of the first seven World Championships, and the only boxer to win eight World Championship medals. Nicknamed Magnificent Mary, she was the only Indian female boxer to have qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics, where she competed in the flyweight (51 kg) category and won a bronze medal. She had also been ranked as the world's No. 1 female light-flyweight by the International Boxing Association (amateur) (AIBA). She became the first Indian female boxer to win a gold medal in the Asian Games in 2014 at Incheon, South Korea and is the first Indian female boxer to win gold at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. She is also the only boxer to become Asian Amateur Boxing Champion for a record six times. Mary Kom won the 51kg gold in President's Cup in Indonesia.

Devendro Singh Laishram, also known as Devendro Singh or Devendro Laishram, is an Indian boxer from Imphal West district, Manipur who competes in the light-flyweight division. Devendro represented India at the 2012 Summer Olympics and lost out in the quarter-finals in a tough bout against the eventual bronze medalist Irish boxer Paddy Barnes. Devendro qualified for the Olympics after reaching the quarter-finals of the 2011 World Amateur Boxing Championships in Baku. In 2013 Devendro won the silver medal at the Asian Confederation Boxing Championship. In August 2014 he won the silver medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. He competed against Paddy Barnes, who was representing Northern Ireland and settled for a Silver medal.

Amrik "Mik" Basi MBE is a British boxing referee based at Fairbairn Boxing Club in Manor Park in the London Borough of Newham. He took the Olympic Oath during the 2012 Summer Olympics opening ceremony on behalf of officials. During the Games he acted as referee or judge in both men's and women's boxing, and officiated a total of 38 matches including refereeing the men's light heavyweight final, becoming the first British official to Referee a final. He received the AIBA award as the top boxing official at the tournament. In 2013, Mik won the best AIBA Referee & Judge award, in 2014 he won the best World Series Boxing Referee & Judge award and in 2015 he won the best AIBA Pro Boxing Referee & Judge award, an achievement unlikely ever to be repeated. In 2016, Mik acted as referee or judge in both men's and women's boxing at the 2016 Rio Olympics, becoming the first ever British referee/judge to officiate at two Olympic Games.

The boxing tournaments at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo took place from 24 July to 8 August 2021 at the Ryōgoku Kokugikan. Thirteen events were staged, the same number as in London in 2012 and Rio de Janeiro in 2016. Thambu Nelka Shiromala also known as Nelka Shiromala Thampu is a Sri Lankan police officer, boxing referee and former national boxer. Nelka is widely regarded as the first Sri Lankan female boxing referee. She has officiated in several local and international boxing matches as referee. She was also selected by the International Olympic Committee as one of the referees for the boxing competition at the 2020 Summer Olympics. She is regarded as one of the early pioneers of the women's boxing in Sri Lanka when it was originally introduced in the country in 2000s. She is nicknamed as "queen of the ring" in the boxing arena.
