The Klangforum Wien is an Austrian chamber orchestra, based in Vienna at the Konzerthaus, which specialises in contemporary classical music.

Founded by composer and conductor Beat Furrer in 1985, [1] [2] it is run on collective principles, having no official principal conductor. [3] Sylvain Cambreling is principal guest conductor emeritus. Principal guest conductor is Bas Wiegers  [ nl ] since the 2018/2019 concert season. The group is often cited as Austria's leading contemporary music ensemble, [4] and is particularly noted for its performances of music by composers of the German-speaking countries, including Helmut Lachenmann, Wolfgang Rihm, and Hans Zender.

Klangforum Wien has been in residence at multiple music festivals, including the Donaueschingen Musiktage, Wiener Festwochen and Wittener Tage für neue Kammermusik. The ensemble holds the Professorship in Performance Practice in Contemporary Music at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz. [5] Klangforum Wien records for KAIROS. [6]

The Wittener Tage für neue Kammermusik is a music festival for contemporary chamber music, jointly organised by the town Witten in the Ruhr Area and the broadcasting station Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR). The concerts take place over a weekend at the end of April or in early May, and concentrate on world premieres of small-scale works, more than 600 as of 2010. They are broadcast worldwide via the European Broadcasting Union.

Hugo Gottesmann

Hugo Gottesmann was an Austrian violinist, violist, conductor, and chamber musician. A highly decorated soldier in World War I, his career in Vienna as a conductor and violinist was truncated with the advent of the Third Reich in 1933. He was fired from his positions at Radio Wien, the Vienna Symphony, and the Academie für Musik and forced to seek work elsewhere in Europe and emigrate to the United States.

Ringturm Skyscraper in Vienna, Austria

Ringturm is a prominent skyscraper in Vienna, Austria, and is the headquarters of the Vienna Insurance Group. It was built from 1953 to 1955 after a design by Erich Boltenstern at the Schottenring. The tower is 73 m (240 ft) tall, with 12,000 m2 (130,000 sq ft) of office space, and is the second highest building within the Vienna Ringstraße, after the Stephansdom. It is a venue for architecture exhibitions, and is known for being turned into a piece of art annually, wrapped in cloth designed by notable artists including Robert Hammerstiel, Xenia Hausner, Arnulf Rainer and Mihael Milunović.
