The 1984 Winter Olympics, officially known as the XIV Olympic Winter Games and commonly known as Sarajevo '84, was a winter multi-sport event held between 8 and 19 February 1984 in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia. It was the first Winter Olympic Games held in a Slavic language-speaking country, as well as the only Winter Olympics held in a communist country before the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, China. It was the second consecutive Olympic Games held in a communist country, after the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union.

Cape Verde competed at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. Their participation marked their fourth Olympic appearance. Two Cape Verdeans competed in the Olympic games: Nelson Cruz participated as a marathon runner, and Wania Monteiro participated in gymnastics. Another athlete, Lenira Santos, was selected to compete in athletics but was forced to pull out due to injury. Monteiro was selected as the flag bearer for both the opening and closing ceremonies. Neither of the Cape Verdeans progressed beyond the first round.

The 1962 World Rowing Championships were the inaugural world championships in rowing. The competition was held in September 1962 on the Rotsee in Lucerne, Switzerland. Rowers from West Germany dominated the competition, winning five of the seven boat classes.
Koče is a settlement in the hills south of Kočevje in southern Slovenia. The area is part of the traditional region of Lower Carniola and is now included in the Southeast Slovenia Statistical Region.
Ivan Efremov is an Uzbekistani heavyweight weightlifter. He competed at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics and placed fifth in the −105 kg division on both occasions. Efremov is an ethnic Russian. He is married to Daria and has a daughter named Ulyana. Following disqualifications of other competitors, in 2020 Efremov was allocated the Olympic bronze medal for the 105kg lift at the 2012 Olympics.
Kristian Efremov is a Macedonian sprinter. He represented his country at the 2012 Summer Olympics as well as two World Indoor Championships.

Artemon "Arti" Apostu-Efremov is a retired Romanian tennis player and currently a tennis coach. Since 2017 he is the coach of fellow Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu. On 15 April 2002, he reached his highest ATP singles ranking of World No. 310 whilst his best doubles ranking was World No. 466 on 17 February 2003. His plays are right-handed.
