Kongor is a community in Jonglei state, South Sudan. It was earlier in Kongor Payam in Twic East County.

Twic east is in Dinka territory. [1] The village is to the east of the White Nile and about 80 miles (130 km) north of Bor. The area is subject to flood and drought depending on the season. The people are pastoralists, with an economy based on cattle which demands seasonal migration in search of good pasture. [2]

Twic east was to become a diocese of the Anglican Episcopal Church of Sudan, to be split out from Bor Diocese. There were delays, and in April 2009 the clergy unilaterally declared that Kongor was a diocese in a letter to the Rt. Reverend Nathaniel Garang Anyieth, Bishop of Bor Diocese. [3] The root of the problem was insistence on the name "Kongor" for the diocese, while the other seven payams in Twic East county preferred the name "Twic East". [4] It is now having three clan that include Padal, Apetloc and Bioodit. The early activist leader Joseph Oduho, one of the founders of the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM), was killed during a fight that broke out between SPLM factions at a meeting in Kongor on 27 March 1993. The province consists of eight Internal Provinces and 61 dioceses. The current archbishop and primate is Justin Badi Arama. Kuol Manyang is a South Sudanese politician. He is a member of the SPLM. He became governor of Jonglei state on 15 December 2007, following the first former governor, Philip Thon Leek from Dinka Bor, to curb cattle raiding and abduction of children in the region.

Bor is a city and a county in the central region of South Sudan. Jonglei State also has its headquarters in Bor. By 1906, Bor District was part Mongalla Province but later transferred to Upper Nile Province. In 1909–1910, people started resettling along the northern border of the Bor-Duk district, with the aim of separating Nuer and Dinka communities, who had formerly lived together. The Bor-Duk district was later redesignated "Bor County," divided into two in August 2001, and then divided into three counties in 2003: Bor County, Twic East County, and Duk County. Greater Bor refers to the entirety of the former Bor-Duk District, from Cuei-keer in Kolnyang, to the south, to Cuei-thon in the former Duk County, to the north.

Twic East County is a county located in Jonglei State, South Sudan. Its headquarters were located at Panyagor. In May 2016, Twic East County was divided into Twic North County, Kongor County, Twic Center County, and Twic South County.

Lith Payam, also known as Jieng Lith Payam, is a Dinka community located in Jonglei State in South Sudan. Lith Payam borders on Kongor Payam, Pibor County, Duk County, and the White Nile. Lith Payam headquarters is located at Wernyol City.

Wernyol was known as the largest city in Twic East County of Jonglei state in South Sudan. It is in the center of Jonglei state and close to the White Nile River.

Budi County is an administrative area of Eastern Equatoria state in South Sudan, with headquarters in Chukudum.

Joseph Oduho Haworu was a leading politician from South Sudan who was active in the struggle for independence and a founding member of the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM). He was part of South Sudan liberation

Elijah Malok Aleng was a South Sudanese public servant, general, and politician, from Bor in Jonglei State. He was born on 28 November 1937 at Thianwong village when his family was living among the Pen people in Angakuei in Baidit, about 20 miles northeast of Bor town. His family, which is originally from Awulian in Wangulei, Twic East County, migrated back to be with fellow Awulian kinfolks. He attended Malek Primary School (1950–1953), and then Juba Intermediate School and Juba Commercial Senior Secondary School, graduating He then attended Free University of the Congo, in the present Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and later got a scholarship to study in Fribourg Catholic University, Switzerland, from which he obtained a master's degree in economics in 1972. In 1975 he obtained another Masters in Development Studies and Economic Planning from Wolfson College, Cambridge in the United Kingdom. In his memoirs: the Southern Sudan: Struggle for Liberty, named Chief Deng Biar Abit, leader of the Awulian clan, Paul Logali, former finance minister of Southern Sudan regional government and Akec Kwai Biar, former Bor District Commissioner and his cousin as the people who positively influenced him.

Kolnyang is a Payam in Bor County, in Jonglei State, South Sudan. It is situated on the east side of the Bahr al Jabal River, to the south of Bor, South Sudan. Kolnyang’s Malual-Chaat was where the liberation revolution that led to South Sudan independence started. Both 105 Battalion commander Alier NhialMangardit and the first fallen hero of revolt Maker Jool were from Kolnyang. Kolnyang Payam is Bor county’s southernmost payam, bordering Central Equatoria State to southwest, Pibor Administrative Area to the east, Lake State to the west and Eastern Equatoria State to the southeast.

Makol Cuei is a boma in Baidit payam, Bor West County, Jonglei State, South Sudan, about 30 kilometers north of Bor. The village is located at the southern extent of the sudd, South Sudan's vast central wetlands.

Baidit is a Payam in Bor West County, in Jonglei State, South Sudan. It is situated on the east side of the Bahr al Jabal River a short distance north of Bor, South Sudan. Baidit is the county headquarters for Bor West County.

Anyidi is a Payam in Bor East County, in Jonglei State, South Sudan. It is situated to the east of Bor, the capital of Jonglei State, on the road connecting Bor and Pibor, in Boma State.

Makuach is a Payam in Bor Central County, in Jonglei State, South Sudan. It is situated on the east side of the Bahr al Jabal River. Bor town borders Makuach to the west, Baidit Payam to the north, and Anyidi Payam to the south.

Werkok is a boma in Makuach payam, Bor Central County, Jonglei State, South Sudan, about 13 kilometers north-east of Bor. Since 2016, it has served as the county headquarters for Bor Central County.

Jalle is a Payam in Bor North County, in Jonglei State, South Sudan. It is situated on the east side of the Bahr al Jabal River between Bor and Twic East.

Panyagor is the county headquarters of Twic North County, Jonglei State, South Sudan. Panyagor was the headquarters of Twic East County prior to that county's division in 2016 into Twic North County, Twic center County, and Twic South County. Panyagor lies roughly 110 kilometers to the north of Bor Town, the capital of Jonglei State, and seven kilometers to the west of the Jonglei Canal.
