In the area of present-day Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany, up to 5,000 megalith tombs were erected as burial sites by people of the Neolithic Funnelbeaker (TRB) culture. More than 1,000 of them are preserved today and protected by law. Though varying in style and age, megalith structures are common in Western Europe, with those in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern belonging to the youngest and easternmost—further east, in the modern West Pomeranian Voivodeship of Poland, monuments erected by the TRB people did not include lithic structures, while they do in the south (Brandenburg), west and north (Denmark).

Rostock is a district in the north of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. It is bounded by the district Nordwestmecklenburg, the Baltic Sea, the district-free city Rostock and the districts Vorpommern-Rügen, Mecklenburgische Seenplatte and Ludwigslust-Parchim. The district seat is the town Güstrow.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Mecklenburg Switzerland and Lake Kummerow Nature Park</span>

The Mecklenburg Switzerland and Lake Kummerow Nature Park lies in the northern part of the Mecklenburg Lake District in the districts of Mecklenburgische Seenplatte and Rostock in the German state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern between the towns of Dargun, Demmin, Teterow, Malchin and Waren (Müritz). It was created in 1997. The total area of the nature park is 673 km2. 19 percent of this area is covered by woodland, ca. 10 percent by lakes and rivers, the rest is cultural landscape. There are 3 large lakes in the naturepark: Lake Malchin, Lake Kummerow and Lake Teterow. The Peene is the largest river in the park. The features that make it special are the large lakes, the riverine landscapes, the centuries-old oaks, the castles, the manor houses and their rural estates. The nature park is well known as a stopover for Nordic ducks. It is easily reached from the A 19, motorway junctions Krakow am See and Güstrow, or the A 20, junctions Tessin and Bad Sülze. The head office of the nature park administration is in Basedow.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Nossentiner/Schwinzer Heath Nature Park</span> Nature park in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany

The Nossentiner/Schwinzer Heath Nature Park lies in the western part of the Mecklenburg Lake District in the districts of Mecklenburgische Seenplatte, Rostock and Ludwigslust-Parchim in the north German state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. It lies between the towns of Plau am See, Goldberg, Krakow am See and Malchow. It was founded in 1990 and finally confirmed in the state act of 1994. The total area of the nature park is 365 km2 of which 60% is wooded, about 14% consists of rivers and lakes and the remainder is cultural landscape. There are almost 60 lakes in the nature park and the rivers Nebel and Mildenitz. Special features of the nature park are the sandar - sand and gravel deposits left by the ice age. Numerous bogs are also dotted across the countryside. The nature park is a breeding ground for white-tailed eagle, osprey und bittern. In addition, wisent are bred on the Damerower Werder. The nature park is easily accessed from the Malchow junction on the A 19 motorway. In the vicinity of the nature park is the Dobbertin Abbey. To the north is the Mecklenburg Switzerland and Lake Kummerow Nature Park and to the northwest the Sternberg Lake District Nature Park.
