pronounced [krûna] ; transl.Crown) is a 2019 song recorded by Serbian singer Nevena Božović. It was released for digital download as a single on 20 March 2019. [1] Božović wrote the lyrics and composed the music. "Kruna" represented Serbia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv, Israel after winning the pre-selection show Beovizija in March 2019. [2] The song was performed during the first semi-final on 14 May 2019, and qualified for the final, where it placed 18th with 89 points.

Background

In an interview with Eurovision fansite Wiwibloggs, the song is dedicated to her fiance, who she was going to marry in a couple of weeks. [3] The lyrics describe how much Božović loves him in the song, vowing that she will belong to her "king" forever and that she will give her life to protect him. [4]

Music video

A music video for "Kruna" was released on 17 April 2019. [5] The video itself has a minimalist style, with the camera mainly focusing on the artist. Throughout the video, the camera zooms out to reveal that Božović is wearing a two-horned tiara and a Wonder Woman-style gauntlet, with Božović making various facial expressions throughout the video. In the climax of the song, spotlights illuminate Božović, before fading to black. [6]

Eurovision Song Contest

Beovizija 2019

On 10 January 2019, Nevena Božović was confirmed as one of the 24 participants in Beovizija 2019 with the song "Kruna". [7] On 14 February 2019 the running order was revealed by RTS and Božović was assigned to the sixth slot in the second semi-final. [8] She advanced from the second semi-final on 28 February 2019, after placing first with the jury and second in the public televote. [9] Božović won the national final on 3 March 2019 with a combined total of 20 points and earned the right to represent Serbia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv, Israel. [10]

At Eurovision

The Eurovision Song Contest 2019 took place at the Expo Tel Aviv in Tel Aviv, Israel and consisted of two semi-finals on 14 and 16 May, and the final on 18 May 2019. [11] According to Eurovision rules, each country, except the host country and the "Big 5" (France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom), was required to qualify from one of two semi-finals to compete for the final; the top ten countries from each semi-final progressed to the final. [12] [13] [14] In January 2019, it was announced that "Kruna" would be performed 9th, [15] in the first half of the first semi-final of the contest. [16] It performed after Belarus' "Like It" and before Belgium's "Wake Up". [17] The song gained enough votes and qualified for the grand final, [18] where it placed 18th with 89 points.

Nevena Ivanović is a Serbian singer and songwriter. She made her singing debut by representing Serbia at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2007 with song "Piši mi", placing third. Božović rose to prominence as the runner-up on the televised singing competition Prvi glas Srbije in 2012.

Serbia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 with the song "Beauty Never Lies" written by Vladimir Graić and Charlie Mason. The song was performed by Bojana Stamenov. The Serbian national broadcaster, Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) organised the national final Odbrojavanje za Beč in order to select the Serbian entry for the 2015 contest in Vienna, Austria. Vladimir Graić was selected to compose three songs for the national final which consisted of two shows on 14 and 15 February 2015. Two of the songs were performed by established artists, while one was performed by an undiscovered candidate selected through a scouting process. The second show resulted in "Ceo svet je moj" performed by Bojana Stamenov as the winner following the combination of votes from a three-member jury panel and a public televote. The song was later translated from Serbian to English for the Eurovision Song Contest and was titled "Beauty Never Lies".

The Eurovision Song Contest 2019 was the 64th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Tel Aviv, Israel, following the country's victory at the 2018 contest with the song "Toy" by Netta. Ireland participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 with the song "22", performed by Sarah McTernan and written by Janieck Devy, Marcia "Misha" Sondeijker and Roel Rats. The song and the singer were internally selected in March 2019 by the Irish broadcaster Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ) to represent the nation at the contest in Tel Aviv, Israel.

Greece participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 with the song "Better Love" written by Katerine Duska, Leon of Athens, David Sneddon and Phil Cook. The song was performed by Duska, who was internally selected by the Greek broadcaster Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation (ERT) to represent Greece at the 2019 contest in Tel Aviv, Israel. She was announced as the Greek representative on 14 February 2019, while her song "Better Love" was presented on 6 March 2019.

The Montenegrin broadcaster Radio i televizija Crne Gore (RTCG) organised the national final Montevizija 2019 in order to select the Montenegrin entry for the 2019 contest in Tel Aviv, Israel. Five entries competed in the national final on 9 February 2019 where the winner was selected over two rounds of voting. In the first round, the top two entries advanced to the superfinal following the combination of the votes of an international jury, a Montenegrin jury, a radio jury and public televoting. In the superfinal, "Heaven" performed by D-moll was selected as the winner entirely by a public televote, gaining 62% of the votes. The group was later renamed as D mol for the Eurovision Song Contest.

"Ktheju tokës" is a song by Albanian singer Jonida Maliqi. It was released as a single on 8 March 2019 by Radio Televizioni Shqiptar (RTSH) and Universal. The song was composed and written by Eriona Rushiti, and produced by Enis Mullaj. It is musically an authentic and rhythmic Albanian-language folk-electronic ballad backed by traditional Albanian instruments. Lyrically, the song addresses the theme of migration, particularly to that of the Albanian people during the Kosovo War in the late 20th century.

The song was performed by the group Hurricane, which among its members included Sanja Vučić who had previously represented Serbia in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2016 where she placed eighteenth with the song "Goodbye (Shelter)". The Serbian national broadcaster, Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) organised the national final Beovizija 2020 in order to select the Serbian entry for the 2020 contest in Rotterdam, Netherlands. The national final consisted of three shows: two semi-finals on 28 and 29 February 2020 and a final on 1 March 2020. Twelve entries competed in each semi-final where the top six qualified to the final from each semi-final following the combination of votes from a five-member jury panel and a public televote. The twelve qualifiers competed in the final which resulted in "Hasta la vista" performed by Hurricane as the winner following the combination of votes from a five-member jury panel and a public televote.

North Macedonia originally planned to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 with the song "You" written by Nevena Neskoska, Kalina Neskoska and Alice Schroeder. The song was performed by Vasil, who was internally selected by North Macedonia's public broadcaster Macedonian Radio Television (MRT) to compete for North Macedonia at the 2020 contest in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Vasil's appointment as the Macedonian representative was announced on 15 January 2020, while his song, "You", was presented to the public on 8 March 2020.

Serbia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 with the song "Loco loco" written by Nemanja Antonić, Sanja Vučić and Darko Dimitrov. The song was performed by the group Hurricane, which were internally selected by the Serbian national broadcaster, Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) to represent Serbia in the 2021 contest in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Among the members of the group included Sanja Vučić who had previously represented Serbia in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2016 where she placed eighteenth with the song "Goodbye (Shelter)". Hurricane was announced as the Serbian representative on 17 December 2020 after they were due to compete in the 2020 contest with "Hasta la vista" before the event's cancellation, while the song, "Loco loco", was presented on 5 March 2021.
